Supporting equal rights for gays

I think that expression sums up pretty much all rational arguments versus ones being argued because Christianity says so. It's not saying Christians themselves are stupid, it's saying arguments based on Christianity are.

As someone who has watched hours of debates between the religious and non-religious I would say it's pretty accurate. Athiests tend to argue logic and facts whereas Christian arguments tend to be based on emotion or hope.

Having a pretty in-depth knowledge of Christianity from a non-believer, academic perspective I would argue that logic is not the preserve of the Atheist, in fact I have heard as much ill-informed and irrational rhetoric from Atheists about Christians as I have from Christians about Atheists.....in fact the ill-formed arguments are pretty much par for the course when people who only have a passing knowledge of the bible or what it purports to say, start using it to justify their ideology, politics and bigotry....be that from a religious or non religious perspective. Arguments based on Christianity are not stupid.....it is some arguments that interpret Christianity to justify their perspective without truly understanding the scripture that are stupid...equally there are many arguments to the contrary that try to use the Bible or what they think the Bible says that are stupid also......

Much depends on your perspective and your innate prejudices.

I would generally advise anyone who is actually interested in real debate to choose those between people of equal standing, both intellectually and objectively.....and unfortunately those are few and far between if you are surfing you-tube, as it is usually one group trying to bully the other by picking on the weakest or silliest perspective to argue against.

Come on now.

Regardless of tactics used, it boils down to this.

Group 1 - Makes assertion (Theists) - "that god/gods exists" (with no evidence)

Group 2 - Rejects the assertion (Atheists) - "that god/gods exists" (due to the lack of evidence).

Group 2 does not need to argue the position, as group 1 lacks the as basic understand of what's required to make such a claim (evidence).

Every one has a right to their own opinions and how they live their life be it in public or private, what i find hard to believe is that people still think its ok to pass judgement on those who choose to live their lives differently.

I wonder what is the main driver or a group of reasons as to why people oppose gay relationships, does it stem from religious upbringing or sexual repression, fear of offspring not being able to reproduce?

Fact is this whole thread is simply a christian bashing thread, sad thing is the OP uses a video where clearly the lady is mentally deranged.

I have no problems with Christians, I have a problem with people saying certain people should be locked up to "cleanse" them from the gene-pool, regardless of their religious affiliation (or indeed lack of one).

Arguing with a Christian is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can be the best chess player in the world, but the pigeon is still going to just knock over all the pieces and strut about triumphantly.

Pfft.....sweeping comments like that are no better than the sweeping comments from homophobes.

Not every Christian shares the views of the woman in the video.

Ascendancy's original point proven methinks

no it wouldn't as it would require more complex DNA, as it stands everything that makes you a man fits on a tiny Y chromosome, everything else is common to both (take your Y out and double your X and you have all the genetics of a woman).

But God also invented DNA, so why didn't he invent more intelligent DNA?

See this is the problem, if God can do anything, you can't use biology (which he supposedly authored) to explain useless parts of the body and then try and claim their uselessness was somehow part of God's genius.

Besides there are far more examples of useless body parts than just male nipples.

So what exactly is the point of this thread then, gays have rights in this country, surely you dont expect a church of any faith to marry homosexuals?
