*** Supreme Commander 2 ***

I've played SupCom II at GamesCom in Cologne - wasn't impressed... Though there's a lot of hype created around the game and Chris Taylor talking about all new, enhanced, innovative stuff... Btw is there a public demo available?

Out of interest.. did you play and love Supcom 1?

There are far too many people that preferred C&C3 to Supcom.

*Pukes in the corner*

there was another thread somewhere on this that I posted exerts from a play test with PC Gamer. it doesn't have the economy as sup com 1 and you effectively specialise in air, land or sea and spend research points to unlock higher tiers of units. it seems like multiplayer will be a race to the experimental units.

Sounds like they have ruined supcom from that :/

Personally I loved SupCom II, I thought it was much better than SupCom I!

I have had some awesome SupCom II Lan party battles.

Has anyone played any of the SupCom games on Xbox 360 and on the PC, how do they compare in game play?

What did you prefer?

Sounds like they've ruined it then as that sounds exactly the same as C&C4... I signed up for the beta and i've played 6 hours of it, graphics are kinda nice but game is absolutely dire.

ok i'm at home now and have the pc mag in front of me - here's a sample quote:

Sup Com 2 isn't good in any of the ways the first one was: the scale isn't spectacular, the maps aren't lush and or inviting, you don't have the power to plan out your whole base before it's built, and there isn't a huge menu of nerdily exciting deathbots to build.

I'll temper that quote by going on to say that (PCG say) it's much more accessible and playable and it does have some cool mega units. On the whole the preview is more hopeful and positive than negative, but there (imho) is an undercurrent of disappointment to it. oh, and he also says that the story is pap and the campaign is not the ideal format for the game.

i guess though it's wait and see, if there is a demo I think I will try before I buy for sure.

Meh, other strategy games do small scale far better Supcom was about the large scale that none else did.

without that it's just any other generic RTS game :(

See that's the problem, Chris Taylor knows to get the sales required for GPG to survive, the game needs to be more accessible. Unfortunately in today's market that means a console version and simplification of the mechanics. Us hardcore RTS players may buy it but that won't be enough on its own.

Demo is supposed to be out tommorow! so any of us who are still on the fence about it can have a play before commiting to buy..

Ah no man... Scaling it down is bad crack. I've already read that the cool stuff like adjacancy bonuses are out - apparently it was too complex and not fair on those who were unaware of it.

Back to Sup Com 1 - I tried the single player (i really did) but as always get bored and just go back to multi-player. I was lucky in that a large number of players in our clan got into it so we were able to spend hours locked in epic battles. ;) Will probably get Sup Com 2 regardless and if it's bad just trade it.
