Most likely you just run the setup yourself by exploring the disc :p

had a few games of skirmish on this earlier and quite enjoyed it, nothing really knew for the RTS scene though.. I did notice very good performance when a lot was going on however so thats all good :) I would even say better performance than on SC1

They have actually said on the forums that the build on the dvd went in january to the publishers and its out of date so you have to get the whole game again, so yes when you buy in store you mayaswell buy a scratch card with a key on

Well yes it performs better because theres sod all going on. When i tell 60 gunships to attack something flanked by 40 air-superiority fighters i damn well expect chaos.

Oh dear lol. Just played my first hard skirmish and it was rather one sided, but very frantic. The game is rather unbalanced atm, although this is typical for an RTS I guess - Air power rules, if anyone didn't garner that from the demo.

The moment Seton's Crotch appeared, I began crying as I didn't know it would be so tiny (:o). I set out getting mexes as fast as possible but before I knew it, I had 5 bombers on my case who eventually fell to land based AA units.

Later on research points were coming in slowly but I had a good air defence sorted by then. Eventually I saw a large trail of units spewing from the enemy base to mine via air - the AI had the Noah Cannon up, and this is where it all changed - for me. Noah Cannon = mucho research points for the enemy (me).

40mins into the game I had researched heavy artilery and built 7 of the buggers to pound their base, except shields seem to be rather strong in SC2. Researching a structure based experimental that was named Quantum something Artilery made a difference - built 8 of those... still couldn't break the shields around their base effectively but I was making a difference.

Things were happening very quick. The AI kept pouring units into my base via it's 3x noah cannons, except they would be dispatched in seconds by heavy land turrets giving me 99 maxxed out research points. The research tree itself was maxxed out by 55mins.

The Air AI is incredibly thick as with the demo. Point them to a distant target on the map and they either don't go there, or go there at a snails pace despite having no slow units in the group. The units look dreadful. I had to keep zooming in real close just to find my engineers, and the king kryptors wobots look horrible vs FA's Giant Colossus. Right now the game needs balancing, so I hope GPG actually focus on it, rather than their next game Kings and Castles, which they seem to be on about more than SC2.

Some screens of my first game.

SupCom1 had reached the limits of the game engine(and pc limits). There was no more room to add exta units/races, only way they could do SupCom2 was a clean slate. Hopefully with the new minimalistic style there will be a lot of head room for updates/expantions. Sometimes you have to take a step back, before you can go foward again.

Main thing is that its still fun to play, only few hours now till it unlocks on steam :).

My opinion is the game was reduced in scope to allow it to run better on aging console hardware (Xbox360). The Xbox360 version of SupCom 1 got 56% on metacritic with most reviews citing Chronic performance issues. I think the PC version sold well but the Xbox version didnt and as with most of the industry the consoles are seen to be where the big sales are. So after Demigod (plagued by pirating and didnt sell massively well) and Space Seige (just plain rubbish), GPG decided they needed to get a money maker and so focused Supcom 2 for consoles rather than the PC.

Thats why the control and gameplay mechanics have been simpified and the graphics are not as advanced as fans of the original hoped.

I don't think as EvilOne said that its down to current hardware being unable to cope.

Jeezo, what settings are you running? It looks pants

Also in regards to being unbalanced, at the start of SC1 it took a long time for people to work out proper countering etc. It appears to be the same in SC2, although I agree with the Air unit pathfinding. It sucks major donkey youknow.

Max settings lol :( Tbh, 2xAA and 16AF. Not a fan of AA and in a game like this, it won't improve poor visuals any further. This is about as good as it gets.

Chris said the game engine couldnt cope with any more expantions, it just couldnt support more units due to the memory limits (32 bit).

Apologies EvilOne, I think Chris is talking rubbish then, Its pretty clear to me the game has been designed for the Xbox360 and its limitations. If it had been designed as a PC only title it would have been a game more akin to the original.

I'm a fan of the original and must say I disliked the Demo so call me a fan boy if you like. I think fans of the original see the changes as so different and wide ranging from the orgininal supcom that it does'nt feel like a sequel at all.

What else could they have done with the original though? Add more units and tweak the graphics? They already said that they couldnt really add more to it, im not sure i can think of what else they could have done.

Dont get me wrong i love SC and SC-FA, but i dont dislike SC2 either. Its a diffrent game. Dont think it will last me as long as the origninal did, but still fun.

why didn't they just improve forged alliance ?

more realistic looking units
improved graphics
better engine
sort balance issues
add in some new units like they had so many in TA
add possibly another race or two
better AI
more music
take away commander teleport(anywhere) ability...he teleports to enemy commander with lazer and its i die and you die...cheap draw tactic.

different modes of play...something like 8 ppl start a game in random positions and you are teamed with 1 other at random. would be fun trying to support each other from different parts of the map.

[optional] some kind of tech tree promotions where you choose a certain path to perform better for the role you're playing in the team.

tbh they could have even threw some dinosaurs in there.....giant T-rex dawn of war style (not serious:p).

Whats up with this, it feels clunky or something compared to the original... :(

Why, when I have multiple engineers selected of the same type can I not issue build orders?

Because it wont let you build stuff you dont have the economy to build, unlike the first one where you coud do what you want and end up running out of mass and stopping production on everything, its just a simplified way really.

So instead, now I have to constantly go back and queue up more orders on things rather than just doing them all at once in the original. Great. Sounds like loads more fun... :(
