I would just go for a Belkin if you want one. I have one and it is a solid extension lead before you think about the surge protection, feels like quality.
Also Belkin backs up their products with £1000s guarantees ...
So let's see how that warranty (guarantee) feels once we add facts. Read the fine print. It does not even claim to provide protection. So its warranty is loaded with exemptions. A guarantee that claims will never be honored.
Or learn from others who tried to collect after that Belkin never provided protection - as its specs say: Newsman on 10 Sept 2002 in the newsgroup alt.video.ptv.tivo entitled "SONY TiVo SVR-2000"
> I got a Belkin surge protector with phone line protection soley for Tivo
> purposes.
> Yet my Tivo's modem still failed. And the '$20,000 connected devices
> warranty' did not help me. I jumped through many hoops, including
> finding the original recept for the surge protector (just under a year old)
> and I sent my surge protector to Belkin (paid for shipping), and was
> denied my warranty. They gave me a ton of crap, including that it was
> null and void b/c the Tivo was also connected to the coax line for
> cable ...
> Eventually it boiled down to a line in the warranty that said "Belkin at
> it's sole discretion can reject any claim for any reason".
Does it feel so good when specs, fine print, and history are viewed?
Feeling is how junk science is promoted. Facts with numbers are necessary to purchase reliable products. How to identify ineffective protectors? 1) No dedicated wire for the short connection to earth ground (ie the Belkin). 2) Manufacturer avoid all discussion about what provides protection - earth ground (ie the Belkin). That Belkin should feel like a scam for both reasons.
