Well more disappointed really. I have never traded in games before, have usually ended up selling them to friends/family, but thought I would give it a go this afternoon.

I ended up in our local independant games shop first thinking I would get the most money for my 360 collection...boy was I wrong!
£6.50 for GOW Ltd edition!!! I LOL'd at him.
Was offered a grand total of £68/£92 (cash/trade) for the following:
Viva Pinata Ltd
Dead Rising Ltd
GOW Ltd
Saints Row
PGR3
PDZ
COD2
COD3
Splinter Cell DA
Kameo
N3
Star Wars Lego 2

Across the road at a larger national chain £102/£186 (cash/trade). I took the receipt (didnt trade them in but they produce a receipt for you to compare with others) over to the lad at the first place as he has been telling his management bods that they are too low on trade in prices. His face was a picture

Granted some are release titles but the difference in price between their competitor is what shocked me most.

Trade in prices usually go by how many of the same title they have in stock as well as the games popularity etc.

I have always found that you get best bang for bucks with games if you look online for the best price (sometimes £5 - £10 cheaper than shops) and then stick em on an auction site when you're done. If you buy games on launch and sell them when you have completed em then as long as you have completed em quite quickly you will probably only lose about £5 per game which is the equivalent to 2 nights rental, so damn good value for money imo.

Your totally crazy if this is the way you trade games. As for the Ltd editions of games, they really dont offer that much more than the vanilla version of the game, so don't be surprised if you don't get more for these whichever method you choose.

Thats generally a good plan mate, but things have changed a little with the Live service behind the 360. You tend to keep games that have good multiplayer or you want to whore some achievements :)

Put them up in MM, theres quite a few titles you have that i'd take off you for the right price which i'm sure is a lot more than the shops offered you!

Try Blockbusters, we are usually pretty decent for 360 stuff, but any other console and youve had it! I can tell you not GoW should give £15 at least alone.

I just traded in today
Gottlieb Pinball Classics and Super Fruit Fall for the wii and got a new The Legend of Zelda for them.
To me thats a good deal.
I think it was in your shop so thanks for the deal.

Just remember that when a game shop buys a game off you they have to add VAT on top.. a bit of profit AND still sell it a a price thats reasonable for second hand.

Ie..
a new game that can be got for say £39.99 in the highstreet would expect to sell for say £25-£30 second hand by most people's ideas. (lets not forget online retailers who can prob sell it NEW for £25 anyway )
So lets say they shove it out at £25... £5 of that is vat and lets say another £5 for profit, remember they have to rent a shop and pay staff, so they would offer you maybe £15 for a game you paid £39.99 for.

I used to work in a second hand game shop and was driven mad by people wanting £30 for the above example and shouting
"yeah but its only a month old and like new! you are trying to con me..." etc etc etc

the best way to stay ahead of the game is to only buy new games when its something you cant live without! otherwise wait 2 or 3 weeks and buy it second hand and let someone else take the fall. Just like cars really :D

I will add that the values given on the OP were very low.... maybe they had loads of 360 games in already? i remember at the place i worked it was a constant battle to keep the stock rotating and trying to avoid ending up with a load of games no one wanted. Once that happens the only way to shift them is to lower the price and on stuff you are cutting even on that means taking a hit. For many small indi's this is the beginning of the end.

Even worse than the trade in prices are some of the preowned prices, £39.99 for Zelda new, £37.99 used in a popular high street chain near me.

My local independant chain are really good for trade ins. (unlike the big highstreet chains). Recently traded in Lego star wars 2 for £25 (they sell it used for £29 and new for £37)

Not bad at all.

Decent store as its just down the road from me :p

I don't tend to bother with the large highstreet chains anymore as their used prices are more than the independants new.

i no what u mean m8 i traded in some games the other day and they offered me next to nothing not even enough to buy another game but the thing that does my head is that they buy them of u for nothing and sell them on for 4 times the price

in one of the high street stores they used to have a 4 digit code on the back of the trade in games, first 2 digits was the console and the last 2 was how much they paid for it.

The mark up is silly really but they dont make that much profit on them.
