Ok thanks to all who advised on a nice setup to purchase.......and now that I have purchased I would appreciate any guidance where possible.

My equipment is as follows;

TOSHIBA LCD 32WL56
PIONEER 585A (DVD PLAYER)
SONY FREEVIEW BOX (maybe telewest TVDrive if my problems with it get sorted)

DENON 1706 (AMP)
CANTON MOVIE 60 (SPEAKERS)

Cables;

2X OPTICAL DIGITAL CABLE
SUB LEAD 1.5
SPEAKER WIRE.

Now I reckon I can figure the speakers out and a read of the manual plus a little trial and error I maybe would get up and running in a fortnight

So anyone care to advise how to link everything up with which cable etc?

Sure nice and simple, just using the amp for
audio switching not video.

* Freeview on scart to TV, and Phono or Digi out to Amp.

* Dvd Scart / Component to TV, and Digital (optical or coax) out to amp.

Speakers are straight forward :)

It may be possible to use the amp as a switch for everything, basically plug all the audio and video sources in to the amp and when you push TV it decides the TV signal AND routes the TV video signal to the TV from the Telewest box. Press DVD and it will send the DVD signal to the TV. Basically means the only thing you need to plug into the TV is the cable from the Amp rather then have 2 or more SCARTS going into the TV.

Your not going to use video swtching it degrades the signal ;)

Well I will have ago and hopefully not blow anything up

Cheers for the quick replies ;)

Stuck already

Got to go from the TV into AMP........so is it the RCA plug?

No, as your not using the tv tuner built into
the screen, you are using your freeview box!

Freeview > Amp ;)

Freeview > Amp ;)

Andy

No option Andy on Freeview box to go to amp.

Option to connect to a HiFi via a conventional 3.5mm jack or optical lead (min Tos).

Connect via optical then.

Your amp will have at least 2 opticals in i imagine?

Is there no phono sockets on the back of freeview?

Andy

On the freeview box it just has the option to connect to an HiFi.

So I need a mini optical then? as the ones I have here wont fit in the freeview box.

Sorry for late reply went to bed matey,

Yup thats what you need, there is another way using a
scart > RCA then split the audio into the amp!

Get one of those leads and you will be sorted ;)

Andy

No need to apologies we all need to go to bed sometimes :)

Appreciate your patience and continued help..........must be difficult trying to educate a noob like myself ;)
