I've had a Samsung Spinpoint to go with my raptor for probably around 18 months and last night I heard the dreaded click and in spun down and my pc crashed, it's working fine now but I know from past experience and an array of defect HD's that its probably going to go.

I've got a a large amount of data I want to backup to another drive, 50gb+ and the last time I did it just by copying and pasting worked for the most part but some of it was corrupt, is there any software that will do a better job ? how does everybody else do this ?

Cheers chaps

I've just had one of my hard drives showing all the symptoms of about to fail and indeed it is a T166 Samsung.

Is there a "dodgy" batch going around like Fujitsu had a few years back?

I'm worried now as my 2nd PC also has a T166 in it.

Im starting too think there is... too many people are having problems!

Looks like I'll be getting a 500Gb Seagate Barracuda then.

I have 3 hard drives at present - small 80Gb with WinXP and few programs on, 160Gb Samsung (failing) with documents, photos, games on and a 250Gb Samsung with music and films on.

Was thinking of replacing this failing Samsung and the other 250Gb Samsung with just the 1 bigger Seagate. Good idea or not?

When/if Solid State Drives come down in price might look at replacing the small 80Gb with one.

Got a pair of them which are slightly iffy here as well  (130 odd bad sectors apiece, occasional click, but have been like this for 7 months now with no change)
Both are in use as scratch drives, so I haven't bothered to do anything about them- I'll only get around to it when one dies completely!

Not sure why people buy sammy hd's tbh
Being a system builder I get too see a lot of faulty hd's and the majority of them are Samsungs. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole tbh and why anyone would buy one over the much more reliable Seagate’s that come with 5 years warranty is beyond me!!

I know and I feel like a dumbass for even considoring samsung, ive been bitten and it wont happen again. Im a seagate fanboy normally and ive even rma'd them and I im totally happy with their rma service. The only downer with seagates is the noise they make.
