Swapped pc from one case to another, now doesn't work :(

When I press the power button The CPU fan spins for a split second the stops. Nothing else seems to spin or work.

I have a green light on my mobo p5q pro and new case is antec 300.

I counted 10 mobo standoffs and 9 screws. Realised antec had pre installed some. So stripped out all out and tried again. But removing the extra standoff.

Same deal. Checked connections.

Where do I start

How do you clear CMOS? Take out battery?

And I have the 8pin connected.

I have used some braided cable extensions. Shop bought. So gonna take them out of the loop just in case, one is wired wrong.

Will remove the battery. More noob proof.

Checked all the front panel connections. All correct. Pos and neg

Well it is safe to say I have killed it.

I have 8pin connected
24pin connected
Boot drive SSD
Graphics card
Sata cables
And only the PWR front button connected.

And it does the same thing.

I am thinking I have done static damage. But cannot see how FFS.

Just clearing the CMOS while I have a smoke.

The only thing I forgot to connect was the two 6pins for the GPU. But pc would still boot I guess? Gonna try it in a sec tho.

There is onboard graphics. That's the only thing I never plugged in from the case swap over. It's a cable from mobo to pci bracket. I didn't plug it in as I wanted to tidy the case. But doubt that would do it

Yeah been out of the case and in mobo box for an hour or so .

Gonna unplug everything and try one last time.

Just re tried.

It must be onboard as this connector has vga input.

So I have 24pin,8pin connected

Boot drive - power and data

One stick of ram

And that's it.

I must have static damaged it. That's all I can think off.

Will have another tinkle, if not. Then it will be scraped/sold

All I have done is swap from one case to another. So it's got to be static damage.

Tried the psu trick. Psu works fine
Tried without harddrive. Still dead

Problem has got worse I think. As GPU fan and CPU fan don't even spin a smidge. But before they did

Tried shorting the powe button pins. And nothing

Giving up now.

Thing is I don't know what works and what doesn't.

Some people will get real bargains when I put untested stuff up on MM

Two patches on the rear of the mobo. Look like dusty area or White/Greyish.


They line up with the sata connections and the
Near the 8 pin area.

if it's any help i would give you my q9450 it's not in use nor has it been in use for a while.

Not very "pc" I don't know what that is lol. I know it's a CPU of some sort. Trouble is I am skint.

Speechless really. Problem is I don't know anyone who is into pc's and I don't have a h spare parts. I don't have anything really.

Is there anyway to find out if the mobo is dead or CPU? Or is it a case of swapping parts out?

What do you guys think I should do now?

I shed a few tears last night I JUST had enough money to buy a case and two fans. As I am just getting into pc gaming. Was playing world of tanks. Dave sold me an gts250 for £25 and while playing the game. It felt like I was playing a £10000 pc compared to my 360

I am guessing it's the mobo.

But what are the chances the ram,SSD and GPU are dead as well?

What ever I have done. Would it kill the those as well?
