Swapping USB port, has it ever worked? an RMA story

Going through the motions with, Logitech atm to RMA my G600 and as expected in the reply of things to try before sending it back, "Try swapping USB ports"

18 or so years of experience and not once has this ever solved a problem for me.

this occassionally solves problems for me, usually when I need to put a USB stick or keyboard into a specific slot to access the bios.

Otherwise it reason it has worked for me is the physical pulling it out and putting it back again rather than the usb port itself.

I'd guess it depends on what the problem is.

Occasionally my mouse isn't recognised in the Logitech software, unplugging the wireless receiver and plugging it back in usually works, or just connecting up the charging cable.

I've done nearly everything suggested.

Swapped the left and right buttons via software to help identify a hardware or software issue. Swapped USB port. I uninstalled the software to test it, reinstalled the software.

Last 2 steps is to blast it with compressed air and try a different computer which I'll do at work tomorrow.

The problem was the left click frequently doing 2 in 1. When I swapped the buttons so left click was on the right click I noticed right click is double clicking too.

Swapping USB ports has solved issues for me before where family/friends/co-workers have physically broken the USB port (how?!?), and once on my PC when the PC had decided one USB "hub" on my motherboard had an issue so had automatically disabled it - swapping to a different USB port on a different internal "hub" allowed me to re-enable it. Was also helpful when a friend plugged his mouse into a USB3 port for a Windows 7 install before he'd installed the USB3 drivers!

Wonder if the G600 switch is a similar design to the G500 switch that was the death of my mouse? Symptoms sound the same - often double clicking rather than holding/single clicking, and eventually no left click at all. There are potential solutions online:

But seeing as mine was still under warranty, Logitech were nice enough to send me a shiny G502 when my G500 died. All they asked was I go through the troubleshooting, as you're doing, and promised to bin the mouse at the end when they declared it dead - didn't have to send them anything, which was nice.

yes it does some times. My adf scanner didn't like usb3 ports for some reason but were fine with usb2.

Being able to use the keyboard/mouse in the bios is another 'stick it in the right hole' moment :)

I had a similar experience with the "have you tried switching it off and on again" brigade when my router had an error light on it. I must've been on the phone with Sky tech support for over 30 minutes switching this obviously duff router on and off, only for the damn thing to start working.

Pretty sure my old mouse was doing something similar, and it was the micro switch inside which had deteriorated.

It can be fixed by opening it all up, and bending the spring in the micro switch to give it more tension. There are guides online on how to do this and it's pretty straight forward.

Have to be careful though, I ended up not being able to get the spring back on so I had to buy a new micro switch, take the spring out of a new one and put it into the old one. Switch was cheap, and thought it was worth trying otherwise I'd have to buy a new mouse. It lasted a couple months before I dropped it and some part from the scroll wheel just vanished :D

If it's under warranty then it'll probably be better going though that.

Well, it's been a few weeks but, Logitech has finally approved my case and are sending a replacement mouse, hopefully another G600.

Good result for being out of warranty.

Ah, and also, early in the process of RMA they asked to me send it back to the place of purchase which was the rainforest. I tried but they rejected my claim due to having the mouse over 2 years without faults and this is deemed fair use. What they did do though was give me £25 as a goodwill gesture which is just over half the value of the mouse.

Sounds like the same issue I had with my G500 and they replaced it with a G500s without too much hassle, although I did send them a list of everything I had already tried including a link to a support thread on the same issue on their website and a picture from paint of me trying to draw a line with LMB pressed down which showed it was skipping.

Mouse has shipped and should arrive at work on, Tuesday, they got the road wrong but the rest of the address is ok and it's always the same UPS driver and he's here every day, should be fine. They've sent me a G600, same as I was using.
