SWG Emu

I eventually went Jedi, right before the NGE and was furious when it became a starting profession... it was still over powered compared to the other combat classes at the higher levels and the game just became "Jedi Wars" There was no, being a dark jedi, joining the sith or the emperor etc it was all poorly thought out!

Dark Side Jedi with their 100% strikethough, destroyed anything.

Someone needs to make a swg2, it was so good, but it's aged and needs updating/expanding. Gave up with this many moons ago.
It doesn't even need to be star wars. Who cares if you have different ship designs. And just get rid of Jedi, or make something similar that aren't Jedi. But like in SW universe it needs to be only a very small portion of people who can ever unlock it.

Agreed but what did we get ... SWTOR.

There isn't one sandbox out there worthwhile bar EVE and tbh that is just stagnant and being systematically destroyed by CCPs incompetence.

Someone is, check out The Repopulation

I have been and will continue to, but it's looking very much like a copy, rather than a remake with improved everything.

Maybe, waiting for the first round of beta testing then will see more, they seem to be adding more stuff all the time, it certainly looks better after watching gameplay vids and then going back to swg emu.

The problem with The Repopulation is because it is based on the Hero engine it just falls apart when you get in the situation of over 40 players in one spot (as we saw in SWTOR). Moreover, development is going really slow. It shows promise and I have a look in now and then but I am not hopeful if the truth be told. Whilst these problems are solvable it is a small team.

Well still hoping it will be good, i backed the 2rnd kickstarter so will get to see what its like soon, what happens when you get over 40 players? Lag fest?

I get on very occasionally, they've done a pretty amazing job at getting things right but to be honest its just too old and after years and years of playing before the NGE from uk launch and then hitting up the emu quite early on its just gotten boring.

I have just started playing on an EMU server (Bloodfin). I know there is a lot of drama and hate in the SWG emu community for them and quite honestly I do not care.

The server offers massive XP boosts at the weekends and some dungeons they have created themselves, as well as two extra planets. I am not saying they are amazing but certainly a nice addition. They also have their own Jedi unlock system, which is not too painful.

I do not have the time like I used to invest in games like this, so being able to grind out a template in a few hours is amazing and it lets me get on with playing the game itself. I have met a decent bunch and done some pvp, as well as having fun hunting jedi with my BH.

Drama aside I only care about the game and this server suits me perfectly (as well as being an original US Bloodfin player back in the day).

If anyone does play I can be found on (Bouth, Snowy or Rawkaa)

So I've now picked this up again out of boredom really but am enjoying it again.... wondering if anyone is part of a guild or something and wants to meet up in game sometime?

i really want to play this again, but i fear it wouldn't be as good as the memories i have of playing it.Spent hours grinding on this, had lots of pet rares as i was in the first batch of MCH's on my server. Master fencer class was awesome though, my guy just went round dressed as a Tusken.

It's actually as good as you remember mate but also different in some ways at the moment there's no real cap on how many toons you can make though when the emu is finished it will be locked to 2 I believe, as such a lot of people run multiple instances and doing solo group missions is a lot more common. And while there's usually a 1000 players online at peak times it still feels a little sparse of life at times.

The thing is it actually looks better with a few simple mods and settings overrides and if you can find a good guild well I'm sure it will feel like home again.

Just got started on Bloodfin last night, TKM in one night, great fun all over againt and the festive 30x XP bonus really helped me get past the "You have no abilities" grind as well as the long journey to TKA Novice!

seems i did try this years ago, how do i install it, surly i dont need to spend £40 on the cds again, and i don't have a cd player anyway.

As far as I remember, you need the discs. They can still be found on eBay occasionally.

On another note. I considered playing this after SWG ended. I played religiously from start to finish. It was the first and only MMO I have ever played and by the end of it I had achieved the goals I set myself when I first started out. Namely; hitting pre-nge jedi, getting a pair of un-released, one of a kind cybernetic kick down legs and winning the "Home Show" competition the devs ran. It was a truly amazing experience and I made many friends, both online and offline. I decided against the EMU on the grounds that I didn't want to challenge those perfect memories.

thats a shame, as i say they're going for around £40 on amazon and ebay.
then would also need to get an external cd drive.

The ISO's can be found elsewhere, but I'd probably receive a torrent of negative comments if I provided a link. I binned my discs when the game shutdown, but If I really wanted to play the EMU, I wouldn't feel any guilt about acquiring them via an alternative channel, especially given the hundreds of pounds I spent on subs.
