Swift starting to die ?

OK so if I go and get a new power supply for my monitor..what specs do I look for please ?

I got rain forest KFD 19v 3.42a 65w adapter for Asus as it had reviews from people using it for this monitor.

See my post above - the power adaptors I've managed to get my hands on from these have shocking regulation and other issues and wouldn't surprise me if somehow a better adaptor resulted in better performance of the monitor.

Also in my experience the panels in these (same one used in the Dell and Acer equivalents, etc.) "settle" over time with a slight improvement to colour accuracy - my first one for instance has a slight reddish hue out the box which I offset with calibration a few months later I had to redo my calibration as it was no longer having the desired effect and resetting to out the box defaults no longer had that slight red bias. Same with my Dell - the settings I originally posted in the relevant thread I had to tweak slightly later.

The improvement in PQ with this new adapter is staggering, I've never been happy with the monitor it always felt like something was subtly off with the IQ, particularly on desktop. Its never been right from new. Asus should be embarrassed. I actually like the monitor now the thing is kicking out a nice image and it feels more responsive. I'd have never believed it if I haven't seen it with my own eyes.

OK so I looked at the monitor last night an it's a January 2015 model , so I'm asking if those early ones had issues ?..is it still worth getting a 3rd party power brick ?

Definitely worth a try. Grab the supply kitch is using.

Wouldn't worry about it being old mate or being lesser quality than the newer ones. The newer swifts are garbage in comparison to the older pg278q's in my opinion.

Sorry to keep asking like a noob, as I do the rain forrest, I had to look in other places

this one below should be ok yes ?

Looks like the right thing though you might be able to find it a little cheaper than that - I paid around £13-14 IIRC though prices have unfortunately generally risen since.

I dunno about current models but from A00 through to at least the A03 revision they were susceptible to the same problems.

Yeah , and to be honest I'm still kind of in two minds about it Rroff, as on the monitor itself as a white patch ( about the size of my thumb nail ) can appear about 2" in from the bottom right hand corner, but its not there all the time , just sometimes .

Which is pretty much where the heat pooling I mentioned happens and the component there will fail eventually as it has current passing through it to ground far above its absolute maximum (I'm not sure if the heat causes the circuit there to fail or the failure causes the heat or a bit of both).

I'm amazed you got 3 years out of it though I'm sure they aren't all bad - my first one lasted exactly a year almost to the hour, second one a few months and latest one after awhile started doing what you describe with flickering or going black and pretty much every person I know IRL who has owned one has had to RMA at least once within the first 18 months. (Second one was a brand new replacement - probably only because they were short of refurbs and I kicked up a fuss once it had been over 3 weeks since I'd tried to RMA the original, latest one is definitely a refurb as the screws showed signs of being undone before and some things were slightly out of alignment).

I've not had that the most common failure is one side of the screen becoming oddly bright and having fuzzy text i.e. the web-page names in the tabs in your web-browser are pretty much unreadable.

The latest one is still working it just becomes more and more frequently and for longer that it starts flickering/going black - usually at inconvenient times like mid gaming. The component failing doesn't seem to kill the monitor dead dead - just malfunctions in one way or another while working.

Wow is this why I am noticing subtle brightness flicker in PUBG? I thought I was going mad but when playing there is a fleeting change in brightness that does is not part of the gane.

Might look into a third party adapter then.

Hard to say really - if there is a problem it should exhibit in more than just one game and you'd see it on the desktop as well.

I've seen it before on desktop but thought I was going mad.
I see there are lots of generic 19v 4.74A adapters out there with the 5*2.5mm connector. Tempted to give one a go see if it helps the panel out some.

Mine had a weird shimmer, the text on desktop looked alaised and I could never get the colour to not not look lifeless.

New cheapo power adapter fixed all that and it now looks like a monitor if that makes sense. Last ASUS product I will buy. Ever.

My rig is full of Asus stuff as well.

LOL..the wife doesnt want me to buy an adapter unless its a " proper" one lol

Have just found out that where I was just about to buy a power adapter from is a scam setup, they claim to be in the UK but are in the United States in Austin Texas.

we sussed them out because they said meter and not metre . lol
