Swiftech Apogee GT vs D-Tek FuZion with Quad cpu review (Swiftech Apogee GT wins)

Review here of Swiftech Apogee GT vs D-Tek FuZion water blocks with a Quad cpu...

Apogee GT won by about 3.2c

Wow!! The Apogee with the bowed base outperformed the FuZion by 3.2c!

So, we concluded that under these conditions with this test rig the Apogee GT was the clear winner with a Kentsfield style die. Under less extreme conditions especially where a higher flow block is needed to balance an otherwise restrictive water loop the D-Tek FuZion would be a logical choice.

Better when running on a lapped QX6700 with a bowed base GTX.

however,

The devil is in the detail...

Bit of a debatable one this. Points to consider are:

In 'standard form' the D-tek fuzion is the better and higher performing block.

Gabe was in residence (Swiftechs guru - make of that what you will) and added a thicker gasket which is NOT how the GT comes retail.

The newer GTX apperntly outperforms both.

They are all awsome blocks though - I doubt anyone would be dissapointed with any of them.

i take everything that comes outa XS these days with a very large bucket of salt, there's far too much manufacturer involvement over there nowadays.

im chuffed with my t tek tbh i prefer the look and preformance diffrence is minimal

And you don't have any clearance issues around the socket on the P5N-E SLi? My EK Wave needs to be turned 'just so' to get it to fit and I'm not certain it's just running as well as it might. For the sake of £40 I'd quite happily buy a D-Tek, but it would be nice to know it fitted properly :)

You get the thicker 'O' ring with the block so you can fit it if you want.

Hi ya WJA96,

I have that board and the D-Tek and had no issues what so ever fitting the block mate. I also have the EK Asus Northbridge block and that fits fine, have to have it at a 45degree turn to line up the holes but thats about it. The only thing to note about the Dtek fusion is how close the barbs are on it. Basically I have the 1/2" dangerden tubing which is thick walled and its a right bi**h to get them on plus the clamps. I actually ended up taking a scalp to it and shaved down the wall thickness at the end of the tubing. But all is working so far touch wood lol.

True but it dosn't come pre-fitted which was my point.

Isn't the GTX just a GT with a metal top ?

The barbs are further appart to allow a greater spread.

i don't know how many times i've said the same thing, it's a shills forum and has been for awhile.

it's far too easy to fudge block tests also.

neither does the watercooling loop. :p

It's all negligable to user stupidity and minor variations can be accounted for.

I got around this buy ordering a longer barb and keeping one of the originals on, then 1 clamp will be higher than the other :)

fits perfect no complaints at all.. and i dont have any backplate on...

also the nb cooler i have is perfect for the board although i did tape up around the nb

Got mine this morning from 'another place' and it's brilliant. It just wipes the floor with my EK Wave block. The retention mechanism is very good - the fact that they've made it so you can't get the tension wrong unless you really monkey-wrench it is excellent.

I'm using Mekrel's trick (well he told me about it, anyway) with 7/16ths Masterkleer tubing on 1/2" barbs and no clamps which solves all the clearance issues on the block.

And the temperatures are truly excellent 36-38C with 3.2GHz on an E6400 using 1.325V (1.225V+100mV) under 100% for several hours (20C ambient). Under similar conditions last night the EK Wave block was averaging 46C across both cores so it's a major improvement and the AS5 isn't set on this yet!

Very nice WJA.Both the GTX and FuZion are great blocks, and they both perform so well yet have such different designs.

The FuZion design is very intertesting and really comes into it's own in a multi block loop, which is why I chose it over the GT (GTX not out at that time either) for my last loop.

My last build (god damn housing prices) will have two seperate loops so restricion isn't a factor hence why I went with the GTX for the new loop.

7/16 tubing is so impressive when it comes to sealing. When taking the loop apart to send my case (less said about this the better, I've never seen something so robust with such damage before) to you, I couldn't pull the tube off the barbs in fear of snapping the PCB of the motherboard and graphics card.
