Hello,

I currently use a PC but need to buy a Mac (probably Mini) to run some specific software.

I already have a monitor obviously, is there any piece of hardware that will allow the monitor to be connected to both computers and just change the display with the push of a button or something?

I dont mind if i have to use another set of keyboard/mouse for the Mac, i am not really looking to unplug and replug a cable everytime i want to switch.

Thanks

You can use a KVM switch or if the monitor has two inputs, just use the appropriate cable from each computer to the monitor (2 DVIs, 1DVI and one VGA etc).

Have a look for KVM units, I wanted one a while back, but I decided on having 2 sets of keyboard and switching input on my monitor when I wanted to go between them,

I had a setup like this a while back, a KVM does work but there's only a few that actually behave properly when between a Mac and a PC. The one I used was a Belkin one.

Have a bit of a research before you buy one and it'll be grand. It's a bit of a pain with keyboard mapping though to be honest.

So something like the Belkin Soho KVM with USB would do the trick?

When you say keyboard mapping, do you mean in regards to the apple key not being present?

Like i say i dont mind having a separate keyboard and mouse, if i was just going for the screen sharing thing would i still need the belkin KVM or would a cheaper one suffice?

There's no # on a Mac keyboard, etc etc.

Yes there is... CMD+3 will give you a hash, its just not marked but its there by default on every Mac I've ever owned.

TBH once you've set it up its not that much of a chore, the way I used to have it was the opposite of what is being proposed here because I had a Mac keyboard but now with Bootcamp you can get the drivers to have the correct keyboard layout without any problems.

I'm not an idiot. I'm using a Mac. I've been using Macs for nine years. I managed to make the symbol. Also, CMD & 3 will do precisely **** all, it's alt & 3 you're thinking of.

The fact remains, it's not on the keyboard, is it? I can ############all day, and I can é and ü and ó and 360º, it doesn't mean they're on the keyboard.

What I was driving at is that they keyboards are, when it comes down to it, substantially different, and one or the other will need remapping. They are not the same.
