hello all

i have seen some horror storys on this board in the past from people who have switched graphics card manufactures, but with ATI having some better value cards on the market i'm very tempted to upgrade and go with ati.

my question is: what will i have to do to avoid problems with switching brands? (i know to allways remove the driver first)

sorry if this seems like a silly question to you pros out there :)

Hi

After removing the drivers. Boot into safe-mode and run Driver Cleaner Pro to remove all traces of old drivers.

I've changed from ATI to Nvidia and back in the past with no problems. Though some people will suggest a re-install of Windows is a good idea, not found this necessary myself.

Good luck.

I swapped from a 7800GT to a x1950 Pro a couple of weeks ago and it was completely painless.

As other have said just make sure you remove all traces of the Nvidia display drivers before installing the Ati card.

Nvidias got the best value card on the market namely the 320mb 8800 GTS for only £199, ATi cant compete at the moment as all their cards are old gen.

I just went the other way from ATi to Nvidia, all i did was add/remove the drivers and the CCC, then booted into safe mode and ran the catalyst uninstaller, then popped the GTS in and installed the drivers, working great with no probs at all. :)

What OS are you in with that 8800 Loadsa?

You can't take advantage of DX10 just yet as there are no games that support it apart from some demos.

I've used nvidia and ati cards in the past...To be honest, the 9800pro was a great card but the more modern ones seem to be lacking - namely the x1950xtx. Too many driver niggles.
