Hey,

My current pc is packed in so going to replace it but my question is, is it a big issue switching my old hard drive into the new system with windows 7 on it. I can save a lot by not having to pay for windows again as they give that option but I just wanted to know how it goes really.

When I say old the drive is actually a new one I got a few months back.

Thanks guys.

PS: This is the one I am going for i think http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-237-OK

Is it an OEM copy or retail.

If retail then there isnt a problem as long as you on have one install per licence.

But as I understand it an OEM copy is linked to the pc so in theory you cant use it in your new rig.

But i may be wrong

OEM softare is one install type stuff, re installing on the new machine will be fine licence wise but just swapping the hard drive wont work, windows synchronizes itself to the chipset on the motherboard so unless you new pc has the same motherboard (or one very similar) you will get some lovely blue screening

I actually transfered a HDD with my OS on it to a different mobo and after searching for the drivers it was fine (still is 9 months later). Give it a shot, and if no joy just format and reinstall. Backup first ofc
