Switching to km/h

The whole point of my post was that even the most idiotic muppet out that can understand that at 30 metres per second when hes driving 5 metres behind someone at 70mph hes got less than 1 second gap. There is no mental arithmetic needed.

Or you could just count the seconds between the car in front and your own car, without needing to know speed or distance in any units. Don't you think that is easier than mentally dividing the estimated (and very likely incorrect) distance between cars by your speed?

I like the idea, used to have a Jap import that still read in KM and I preferred it, doesn't take long to get used to what KPH to do in what MPH zone and it's cool seeing the needle actually get into the second half of the dial lol.

If we were for some reason revising all the road signs across the country then it would make sense. No real reason to absorb the cost otherwise

No real reason to have every sign in Wales in two languages when everybody reads/writes/speaks English and <19% understand Welsh, but meh lol.

It was fun maxing out my Forester S/Tb Speedo in Cyprus :)

Also in these days who hasnt got a sat nav that can provide a far better estimate on how long its going to take to get somewhere than doing mental arithmetic in a car on a journey.
And those SatNavs also factor in information (known or live update) on the towns and traffic dense areas you'll be passing through. But they're computers. They can store and immediately access that level of info on every area in the country. There's even teh option to calculate alternative routes in the event of sudden stoppages, traffic, roadblocks, etc.

If I know I will be riding close past Birmingham on my ride, then no, the simple calculation of speed and distance will clearly not be accurate. But I'll be sensible enough to say, "Oh, passing Brum? Right, add another 20 minutes to allow for traffic, then".
