swords

sigh...there is no such thing as a "Samurai Sword" the picture above is a Katana. The ones that look similar are wakizashi sword, and the smallest ones like a knife are Tanto.

Who gives a toss what its called.

A Samurai comes with 2 swords, end of.

My current favourtie sword... sits very nice in my room right now, although i do plan on getting something to hang it on the wall with as that would look even cooler :D

its quite cheap, made out of metal, probably nowhere near a practical metal as its pretty heavy... but is still very sharp.. i also wait for the zombie hordes, does anyone know when they will be handing out the shotguns ? :D

A set of Japanese 2 swords is "Daisho"

Cheap swords aren't folded steel, the hamon is just ground away with a angle grinder, and are stainless steel

Hmmm, i know this has allready been asked, but how sharp are they? I dont wana buy one and find out that it is simply decorative, id like it to be at least a little bit of a weapon, for that added coolness effect.

If yours is stainless steel, just use a cloth. But if it's steel, you need to remove existing oil, then apply a new thin layer. I wouldn't recommend the powder as it can scratch the blade. Use some Choji oil, or a very light mineral oil.

Pratical Katana's are very sharp, close to a shaving razor (if you run it along your finger it'll slice the skin, you won't feel it unlike a duller edge)

Where can one purchase a practical Katana in the UK?

Blades UK. Look at Paul Chen Pratical, the tsuka is fixed though, or if you want a true Katana (removeable tsuba and tsuka- fingerguard and handle) Pratical Plus. It looks quite mundane, if you want a mantlepiece go for someone a bit nicer. Remember it's untreated steel so it will rust if left unoiled.

So somthing like this sword would not be worth it, in the sense it wouldnt be sharp

(its the 4th sword down under Samurai Swords)

It says it has a "sharpened stainless blade", what does that mean in terms of quality?

It has no quality, a proper sword isn't stainless steel. It's too brittle.
Look under "Functional Swords" those are proper swords, not movie replicas/other cheap pap.

That is a eyesore

OMG, screw katana's, im going to order some throwing knives and a guide :D Perfect things for a night out in lenton in nottingham :D

That machete looks pretty handy for home defense, as a katana is a bit big to swing around in a corridor.
