Symbian 3 + Nokia N8 = WOW!

MeeGo is essentially Maemo 6. Same OS, different name.

I know that, what I meant was that it is replacing Symbian as the main future Nokia OS.

Bottom line is, unless you want it solely for the camera this phone will fall short on every other front to an Android phone.

I thought Symbian will become Nokias low/mid range OS with Meego competing against android/iOS/WebOS etc

Still, it actually looks ok in that vid (if a bit laggy + all those window reflections... Doh, for a top end camera phone taking pictures out in the sun will be nightmare, when will some manufactures learn?)

I really like that Web TV app, what a great idea! Can someone make one for android please? (or is there one already available?) What did apple say about flash again? :D

don't really like the look of the phone.. much prefer android with its customisability never really liked the look of symbian and this one doesn't impress me. Nokia seem to make reliable phones and the 12mp camera and those preview shots taken with it are stunning. BUT a 12mp camera isn't worth putting up with the dying heart of the phone. the OS

In terms of sales and number of products, Symbian will still be Nokia's dominant smartphone OS. There was a leaked product roadmap that showed that Nokia was only planning on making one MaeGo phone a year.

Symbian has other advantages over Android. Battery life and security for a start.

Sorry for the noob question but what happens to an iPhone when it visits an entirely or partially flash-based website? Empty white boxes, or does it use its own methods to display the content?

It usually shows an image as a preview with a message saying "cannot play media".

Yes i use to like my noia phones. But now that i own a htc phone, android os. I wont go back now.

Nokia need to ditch the symbian os. Yes it was very good back then when there wasn't any other os to compete with it. But at this rate they are gona go bust if they dont improve.

Go bust? I'm sure they are still making more money than any of the other phone manufacturers. (Only including Apple's phone sales.)

Well i didn't mean it that way. Just they are gona lose a lot of customers if they dont switch to a diffrent/alternative os.

Symbian is just too easy, predictive. Nothing special. Android/apple os has taken it to another level.

I'd say Nokia make most of their money on the cheaper handsets, that are made to make calls and send texts. And I don't think that share of the market is going anywhere, any time soon.

Is that a bad thing? Symbian has far more functionality 'out of the box' without the need to pay for apps to use your phone to its full potential

Also what most people are forgetting is that this is a new symbian^3 OS

Why cant Nokia use Symbian. I really like their handsets but the OS is a bit naff compared to Android and the apple offering.

Stop trying to sell yourself this phone.

Symbian is poor, everything is rectangular for starters, it was the same on Maemo too, it looks horrible.

It is simply not as good as Android, or iOS. My opinion, yes, but one that most people will share.

Unless you are buying it solely for a good camera (which in honesty, doesn't look that impressive even from the 'sample' shots), then you should be buying an ACTUAL camera, even cheap digital cameras will better it.

The biggest Symbian fansite around shut down not too long ago -

If they could see anything good coming from Nokia I'm fairly sure they would stick around.

I'm not trying to sell anything, still waiting for a full review/instore hands-on to make up my mind between this and the galaxy s. You are attacking the phone and I'm simply defending it

Seriously? Because its rectangular?

Anyway I prefer functionality over looks. Each to their own I guess.

Every Symbian phone i have tried its looked slow and laggy, horrible system to use its about time they scrapped it and the fact they can't get developers as link below shows.
Android is without a doubt the best for functionality from personal use it does everything you could ever want it too and going on the xda android community makes it fantastic, i have a I4 now and love the phone but it can't touch the android devs for what they do with it.

Symbian Guru wasn't the biggest by a long stretch. All About Symbian or Symbian Freak probably holds that crown.

Who here has actually tried Symbian^3?

I suspect nobody.

That said, we are having a discussion which is obviously based on the old symbian.

Symbian 3 could be very impressive, but it doesn't look it.
