I bought a new hard drive last week and when i install the drive into the system it locks up at boot then takes me to a bios screen. There it shows me it running through the boot process when it gets to the new HD which is in SATA port 5 it gives me an error saying failed to recoqnize the drive then just sits at that screen until i power the system down.

Looking at the drive i cant seem to see any external damage

I would say that you need to change to AHCI mode or IDE depending on how windows was installed. If you installed when it was IDE then you will need to keep it at that or vice versa.

im guessing you haven't, but did you remove the HDD that windows was installed on to put this one in? if you did, you have to reinstall.

I tried that and it didnt work. Now my computer will not recoqnize any drives i have in the system.

All it shows in the bios menu is my cd drive
