Hey guys,

I've just started playing through this game for the first time...

I'm on the first level and I think I've run into a bug. Wherever I go, I have an unlmited number of "hybrids" coming at me. They are easy to kill but after five minutes of bashing them with the wrench, it's getting very tedious.

I know this forum has a fair few players of this game - can anyone help?

P.S. I'm using the DDfix and widescreen mod.

How often are they appearing? Constantly as in as soon as one dies another is there? Or after a while another one appears and scares the crap out of you?

From memory you could disable the respawning by an entry in the config file.

Edit:
Link to cheats mentions a config entry to disable respawning. If you're able to resist the other cheats listed.

Omg theres a fix for new pcs? I will have to dig this out of my drawer!!!

How much I need to do past installing it to get it working on vista x64?

Weapon degredation turns me off games completely... which is why I never finished SS2 despite really liking a lot of the game... infact I only played about 30 minutes of it and despite being really into the game in most other aspects I just couldn't live with it.

Lol, happened to most of us on our first play through :)

Stick with it, it's an amazing game.

Well, I've played into it for a few hours now and I find it pretty boring tbh... :(

I love first person RPGs (Deus Ex, Elder Scrolls etc.), but this one isn't doing it for me. I reckon that if I played it when it first came out, then I would have really enjoyed it. But I feel that if like me, you are playing this game for the first time in 2009, then it's just too dated. As for the horror side of it, I haven't been remotely scared/jumped once. No game's made me jump since Doom 3, hopefully Dead Space won't disappoint though. ;)

Having said all that, I will persevere and play it through to the end. May as well give it a proper chance if it's supposed to be such a classic.

If you pump skill points into Maintainance then this won't effect you too much.

It can be a little meh in parts at first but once you get into it it's really amazing. I wouldn't say it's a 'jumpy' kind of game, but it's very creepy. The atmosphere builds and builds and if you play it alone in the house at 4am in the morning you'll soon be too scared to turn the lights out ;)

About 5 years ago I played this for a few hours, wasn't overly impressed apart from the odd section. Still got it installed complete with savegames though so I might revisit it one day.

Definitely not in the same league as Deus Ex or even Bioshock for me.

Better than both IMHO. Obviously now it's dated but at the time it was much better than both (compartively speaking). Deus Ex was okay as was Bioshock - I've completed them both but they were both still very generic without bringing something new to the genre where as SS2 did.

It's harder to get into than either, but definitely better if you can stick with it.

All I can say is to try to go back to it (start a fresh game) with the graphics upgrades. Also, check out ZylonBane's newbie/non-spoiler guide. It'll help you get over the initial annoyingness of the game (e.g. how unfriendly it is to you when you first start playing). It's *really* worth it.

I can just never get the demo to run for more than a few minutes before it crashes, no other games crash so perhaps its because its an old game, communication error of some kind, I just don't know.
