System Shock 2 - Endless Respawning Enemies?

Wasn't a fan of the broken weapons, but the constant respawns are one of the best things about the game, you're never safe, they are always hunting you down.

SS2 is one of my favourite games.

it seems i must be one of the few who actually thought weapon degradation hightened tension in SS2. This plus the scareness of ammunition add greatly the game I feel.

I think I used to melee pretty much most of the game. Remembered getting an electric batton style weapon later on - it looked like a light sabre.

I also am having the urge to dig out the old game and give it a blast as well, it should work well even on this laptop.

I never got on with weapon degradation though and did turn it off in the config file. The respawning enemies were always more of an irritant than a bad thing.

They also kept old areas interesting when you went back to them (I still vaguely remember missing an item or log (or something) and having to trek back yonks to find it).

Am nearing completion now (I think) and have to say that the game has won be over. Again, playing so long after the release has reduced its impact significantly. But nonetheless, it's a very enjoyable game and would be happy to recommend it to anyone interested in this kind of game. :)

Better than both IMHO. Obviously now it's dated but at the time it was much better than both (compartively speaking). Deus Ex was okay as was Bioshock - I've completed them both but they were both still very generic without bringing something new to the genre where as SS2 did.

I just can't understand how Deus Ex is generic in any way

Well for a start it's hardly an RPG (which most people seem to think - it has some very basic RPG elements). The interactions are yawnathon's - the skills are very generic - to me it didn't bring anything that hadn't been done before. You are lead by the hand all the way through the game. At least it was better than Deus Ex 2 - god that game was bad.

Don't get me wrong it was an okay game - but it wasn't ground breaking like most people claim.

It's harder to get into than either, but definitely better if you can stick with it.

All I can say is to try to go back to it (start a fresh game) with the graphics upgrades. Also, check out ZylonBane's newbie/non-spoiler guide. It'll help you get over the initial annoyingness of the game (e.g. how unfriendly it is to you when you first start playing). It's *really* worth it.

I used a gfx mod when I played it then (a few new textures, still looked fairly poor and limited to 16bit colour). I think I found the interface/inventory a bit clunky as well. Not too sure about starting a fresh game if it's unfriendly at the start as that'll likely put me off surely?:)

Must be a troll.
Hehe that's the second time this week I've been accused of trolling. Which brings my lifetime total to 2.

I remember feeling let down by the ending it was all tension and intrigue and then the tired unplug the machine nonsense, a terrible resolve. Also the multiple endings only depended on your actions in the final moments, which was cheap I thought.

IIRC there is a widescreen mod/fix for SS2 but you would have to dig around the Looking glass forums to find it.

SS2 a great game and i replay it often. Although some of the later levels are a pain with the organic parts.

Also grab the editor as you can use that to edit some of the game items which can make replaying the game fun if you have already played it before a few times.
