Hey guys, my computer is pretty dated these days. Old Athlon 64 3200.

I got a Coolermaster Wavemaster Case, 500gb S-ATA hard drive, DVD Writer so i assume i can reuse that? Graphics card is AGP and fairly dated so wont be using that.

So i think i need a Motherboard, CPU, Ram and Graphics Card? Anything else? I dont wanna spend a fortune so anything sub £400ish would be good. Any cheaper would be a bonus! Or is it worth looking in the For Sale section on here?

Are you wanting to use it for gaming? £400 isnt unreasonable for a decent gaming setup, but if it is for gaming you may want to look into a new psu. You will be able to use the old parts you mentioned again but they would be the cheapest items to buy new anyway :)

If i had the money i would be going for something like this:

Hope that helps. :)

Edit - You might also want to get a cpu cooler, you will get a stock cooler with your cpu but most people upgrade. If you qualify for free delivery you can get a decent one for £15 so just over budget.

It depends on the wattage and brand really. If the wattage is high enough you could use that again no problem, and as long as you think it will be reliable i dont see why not. :)

If its for gaming Id recomend a cheaper CPU, the dual core 550BE would suffice, and spend the extra on a better gfx
Though that depends on what res you game at?
And as already asked what make/model/age is your old PSU?

Id get this then

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £124.98 (£108.68)
Asus M4A79XTD Evo (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard £82.98 (£72.16)
OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (OCZ3G16004GK) £79.99 (£69.56)
AMD Phenom II X2 Dual Core 550 3.10GHz Black Edition (Socket AM3) - Retail + Colin McRae Dirt 2 Full Game £77.99 (£67.82)
Total : £365.95

And a new PSU if needed

yeah no problems, and for a couple years to come, that card has DX11 support and at your res its not going to strain it, you could even get a bigger monitor and it'll still cope

Ive been offered a quad processor, mobo and two 8800gts (sli mode) for £200. Would this be better off to go for or should i stick to the above system, ill find out exactly which mobo and cpu it comes with

Right guys, spec is as follows

Intel Quad Core Q6600 CPU
Twin 8800 GT SLi
N680SLI LT Mobo

Any good? Think he wants around £200 for it all

My friend has prety much that exact setup (not sure mobo is the same) It works quite well and will perform well but tbh i think it would be better to but a newer setup because they are quite dated, i mean the processor was one of the first quad cores on the market.
