Hi i was using treesize to check what is taking up space on my ssd.

I noticed that "System Volume Information" apparently takes up 9.3 gigs! (3 files in the folder with weird long character file names.. one is 8.7 gig and the others are a couple of hundred mb)

Is this normal? (ssd size is 238 gig)

Also Windows 7 takes up about 21 gigs this is about standard right?

My pagefile is 7.9 gigs.

Just trying to see if i can free up more space on my ssd.

That's where the System Restore points are kept. Disabling system restore will remove them and stop them being recreated.

ahh whoops that explains it :D thanks! I just reconfigured the system restore usage size to sort it thanks.

obvious when someone say it isn't it but not at the time ;)

You can save a bit more space with the windows update cleanup option in disk cleanup. If you've just installed windows there won't be a lot unless you installed from an RTM disk then SP1, but it's something you can run every 6 months or so to free up some space.

ED209, nor me, just create a backup image instead with Paragon Hard Disk Manager.

i keep nothing i cant re download or i have on my external hard drive to get back from so doesnt matter if my OS dies or needs a re install

I do it for convenience, PITA setting up windows to my liking and reinstalling all my apps. Don't keep a backup of my netbook though, that doesn't take much setting up.
