I need a 500gb HDD, one of my raptors is on its way out, so i'm going to RMA it and just sell them both once the drive comes back.

I can't decide which of the two drives to get, I'm usually a WD man, but after having 2 failures in 6 months it's kind of putting me off, even though WD have one hell of a returns department.
I've been looking at various benchmarks on different sites and overall the Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 NCQ 500GB seems to be able to pip the WDC SE16 5000AAKS 500GB in all of the benchmarks. I know its not by much, but I thought it might be worth a change.
I'm intending to run Vista off the 500GB drive, and XP Pro off raided 250GB WD SE16's.
500gb partitioned - 100gb (VistaOS) 400gb (storage)
2x250gb RAID0 partitioned - 100gb (XP-OS) 400gb (storage)

Never actually used Vista on my own machine yet, just tried it out at a mates house, let him be the guinea pig!

Anyway, anyone with any opinions/advice, please feel free to leave some!

Have you considered the Samsung 500gb drive? I just replaced a failing Maxtor with a 320Gb one and am very impressed with its performance and acoustic (rather lack of) characteristics.
