Table Build Log

first go at this is always going to be a challenge and it l think you've done pretty well, looking forward to seeing it all buffed and polished.

did you watch some youtube videos? atch fair few the most seem to go with the following:

trowel it out across the top to start with, then trowel a little down the side. use a paint brush to coat the side with the drippings.
Then use paint brush to stipple the top.
Then use blow torch to bubbles and repeat another 2 times about 5 mins apart.
when it goes tacky run something along the bottom of the edge to remove any beading/drips.

probably be a bit of a pain sanding it down, but put the effort in, you'll get there and then you can appreciate more than buying cheap tat.

edit - heres one, also seen them do the stippling on clear and they said it helped remove any lines from the trowel

would love to do a picknic table with the rotten wood, where they fill the rotten bits in with glow in the dark resin. But don't own a house yet so pointless. or the ones where they burn it with electricity that is also cool.

whilst searching for the images someones carved out a globe map in a table and then done the resin for the oceans, that's pretty cool as well.
I so want a workshop or large garage :(

Didn't use Youtube, probably should've done!

I did use a hair dryer for bubbles but they were still appearing up to 2 hours later and by that point when they rose and popped the resin had started to harden so didn't flow back into the gap.

Electric sander should do a job, i don't fancy ruining my planer on it. Might try heating and scraping as well. Maybe buy a heat gun rather than hairdryer as the hairdryer was a bit powerful and blew the resin around even from a distance.

I have neither, just use the small yard. Then take over the house with wood and tools. Drives my wife mental!

Have considered looking to see if i can rent a garage.

Have done sweet fa recently. Was my wifes birthday last weekend and the weather has been pants. Hopefully to get it finished this weekend and then move onto something new.

Well i finally finished it last night. I applied the woodstain properly to the new base which now looks much lighter than the rest of the table so think it'll need a second coat.

Annoyingly, even though the previous base was glued using exterior gorilla wood glue there's been some movement since it's gone outside. You can see where the pieces have become slightly misaligned so need to fix that too (didn't i say it was finished?)

Either way it'll do for the time being and i'll be moving on with the next pile of jobs on my list!
