Tabletop Warhammer?

The club I play is currently in the process of transferring itself into a charity instead of what it currently is and due to reasons everything was 40% off on the shelf.
So I basically got fomo and bought a load of stuff I probably wouldn't have bought otherwise.

TSONS combat patrol and some space marine aggressors were like £60.
People had obviously picked through quite a lot of it, but it was mainly tyranids left, And a couple of tau and necron combat patrols. I also picked up fabius bile but I had him ordered in so I didn't get extra discount on that.

The game itself was good, chaos Vs nids again. I won by 2vp but a nice balanced game.

Against my better judgement, I tried one of the army painter air paints. Strangest thing ever, I can completely saturate something I've primed black and by the time it's dried the paint is completely gone like I never did it.
No idea what's going on with that lol.

First/test plague marine done. Went out of my way to make him very bright before weathering so it will stand out a bit more on the table, was convinced I’d gone too far before weathering but I think it’s worked.

Went with the heresy colour scheme because… well it’s just better imo

Wow, this is amazing!

Ahh no. I had a day to myself tomorrow, no wife or children just hobby time.

And my eldar order was sent via DPD so there's zero chance it makes it from England to NI by tomorrow :(

Maybe it was just a very large box :D

I placed an order from eirehobbies Down South there on Wednesday and they shipped it and arrived next day via DPD next day all Ireland service. Think it was only around 5 quid and it did came next day.

Normally have a frustrating experience with DPD when it’s coming from the mainland.

So far I found Elements games comes next day via Royalmail including Saturdays. I use it when I can’t wait or my order is over 80 to get the free shipping.

Wayland games if I’m after the the free shipping and can wait. RM48 but they tend to take a day or getting the parcel to the hub. (20quid spend)

Off to the tournament today.

Ive gone for a very shooty heavy Necrons list.

My first lineup is against a blood angels army full of the kind of units that I should shred as long as they dont get close enough.

Will keep the thread up to date as they day progresses :D

Good luck, hopefully you get matched with some decent players and by decent I mean not toxic!

Unfortunately, tournaments do attract the absolute worst, sweatiest/beardiest types of tabletop gamers.

That said, if it's a tournament at a flgs with a crowd you're already familiar with, then it can be a great experience absolutely.

First game vs blood angels.

Shot him off the table but got bodied on secondaries. Literally couldnt have drawn worse ones.

Guy was super friendly as well.

I nearly got humped by them last weekend. Largely my fault as I deployed like an absolute moron. Too many infiltrators which he was able to reach very quickly and use as a launch pad to get to my back line. Luckily my reinforcements saved me despite 2 eradicator squads combined, with oath and full rerolls only managing 2 damage on his DC dread.

Give deets please!

I got this AK set of metallic markers: https://www.waylandgames.co.uk/ak-metallics-metallic-markers-4-references-ak1300

They have a 1mm rounded tip and I tested the gold one on my Forgefiend, what you see took me about 10m. I wasn't being super careful but the point is that would have taken me way longer with a brush and would require a second coat. It's not all sunshine though.

Pros:
Once you figure out the flow you can easily cover in one coat.
I find it far easier to do the side of the trim bits with the pen.
Much much quicker.

Cons:
Girth of the pen means you will not get it in to some places, it dries very fast so not sure if I could get some ink out and then dab brush in it and apply that way.
Sometimes the flow can be inconsistent and catch you out as it's quite runny.
Price, not sure how long one will last but I doubt it's going to be anywhere near to a pot of paint.
Can be easy to flood a part and lose detail.

Pros/Cons:
They are very reflective.

I have found that the 'Old Bronze' is a slightly brighter Balthasar Gold, and the 'Gold' I used is more akin to one of the highlight colours I'd use like maybe Canoptek aloy or Runelord. So I am going to test one by using the Bronze, then wash it, and then highlight with the gold. I suspect though that due to how quickly it can pool up I may have to do it with a brush but that's fine.

Molotow also do blank markers and I think I will order a chiseled tip one (AK are rounded) and also a smaller marker to see if it allows me to get in the areas I want. I suspect it will always be difficult though with a pen compared to brush. Molotow do their own gold but I think you can use any speed paint metallic instead. I may also be tempted to use say a black one too. I don't think they can fully replace a brush but they can speed some of the process up for sure depending on your model.
