Tabletop Warhammer?

even although the Space wolves got most of the attention and looks like it’s going to be an even bigger release. Most of the new models look cool as ****.

The new army boxes look fantastic. Very tempted by the GD and World eaters!! Even though I probably never get around to painting them :D
Ffs I'll have to won't I because 3 racks is an odd number. Although those look different which will throw off me feng shui
They do look cool but it side steps the main reason I bought most of the line. Certainly will pick up some of the colours.

For those who may remember him, Paul Sawyer (Fat Bloke) passed yesterday.

I've never been a tabletop player, but my dad was in to painting miniatures when I was growing up. We used to read White Dwarf avidly every month, and Fat Bloke's 'Tale of Four Gamers' series was one of the many highlights I recall from those years.

I never knew Paul was the guy behind that series, I used to read it myself when I was a kid

Aye, he was editor of White Dwarf at the time - must have been around 1998 or so.

Edit: Actually it was. First part was in White Dwarf 218, February 1998.
I just checked and he was editor until 05 so for sure was his colum I was reading, I started wondering then if I had got him confused with another editor, but sad to hear, seems like he was suffering from a serious brain tumour

Hobby score :D

Right think I’m finally ready to settle on the final recipe. Felt as if the last go was to much grey. Just have to find the right ratio of satin to ultra matte varnish. That’s 4 parts UM 2 part statin.

The more Matte I go the less black it looks but can see better highlight placements.

Stuck an order in for colour forge matte black and peachy peach.

Also tried to pinch a popper off my youngest but that didn’t go to well. Wee Demon doesn’t miss anything so also ordered the CE silicone pallet (popper). some paints especially when trying to edge highlight get too watered down on the wet pallet.

Finally made the plunge and got the same compressor and airbrush as Kindai - immitation and all that... :)

Quick question - Ive got the thinner, cleaner, some steel mixing dishes, some pipettes etc. How important is a spray booth? I would need to reorganise my painting area to accomodate one, but happy to do so if its viewed as essential. Thoughts would be much appreciated from those who airbrush.
As others have said the main thing for a spray booth is it controls overspray and removes much of the muck from the air.

I have two, a proper semi commercial/education rated one in the garage that is awesome for spray cans you almost can't smell the can 30 seconds after using it (graphic air a300 from memory, about £350), and a £100 amazon cheapy one which is much weaker but works well for normal acrylic spray paints inside the house. I would not use the cheap extractor with spray paints at all, it's quite weak compared to the proper one and IIRC about half the extraction area.
I almost always use a P3 half face mask when spraying as long term protection (about £20 for the mark and £15-30 a year on filters depending on when how much you do).

Basically if you do a lot of airbrushing it's definitely worth getting an extractor if you can find room for it, I know people who use modified kitchen extractors (as you can often get them cheap second hand), or build a unit using things like computer fans but the saving vs buying a cheap commerically available one isn't great.

The one thing I would note, is that the cheap ones are hobby models, and may not have the sort of protection that the more expensive models have in regards to sparking etc (not really an issue if you're not using flammable solvents or propellants).

Thinking of a new airbrush as my chinesium one has broke.

Harder & Steenbeck – Evolution CRplus Solo 2024 Airbrush

Expensive but seems to get good reviews, has anyone used one ?

But I enjoy guessing what colour my snot is going to be after airbrushing a few different colours :D

As long as you don't eat it and Taste the Rainbow.

I shudder when I remember what used to come out of my nose after undercoating the models in the garage before the extractor and mask.
I'm still finding areas where the dust settled, 15 years after I got the extractor.

H&S brushes tend to be very good, they're well made, reasonable prices, CS is good, and you can easily get spares a decade or more down the line for the commonly used stuff.

IIRC the evo brushes allow you to swap the caps, cups, needles and nozzles with ease so even if you get a solo you can usually swap out the needles/cups etc if you need to.
From memory I've got something like 4 paint cups (from the 0.5ml tiny one, to the 30mm bottle) for our brush which is one of the old Evo 2in1's (two cups, and two needle sets). Our brush is close to 15 years old now I think and still going strong, although it's not had much use for the last few years.

You can probably tell there’s a lot of H&S fans on here including me. I have 3. Including a 2024 infinity.

Before the 2024 lines H&S where already considered top tier and they have improved on that.

Ultra, Evolution and Infinity will last a life time. Easy serviceable and has werewolf pointed out parts are easily got.

Does anybody on here play Warhammer The Old World? I like look of it and I'm trying to find some good youtube content on it that maybe shows how game and each faction plays for newbies

Edit: Litterally after posting this I found this channels playlist for beginners lol

I always wanted to play Kings of War pre COVID but never really had any local players but Old World seems too be popular enough at my semi-local club to be running events etc. I just didn't wanna bother them with a million questions so was trying to find stuff myself ha

KoW is played more than Warhammer at the place I go. I actually have an army in a drawer unopened lol, Nightkin.

Funny enough so do I, well partly I did sell few bits of it couple years ago, shame its not a army I can convert to Old World though since its the icy area humans (forgot name), one of the youtubers I used to watch played loads of KoW cause it was mostly popular game in his region (Leeds area IIRC)

I am getting fed up with the problems of my ageing AP Warpaints and my daughter wants to properly try her hand, so we went halves on these for the interesting colour mix. Covers some shades I use often and many I don't have a comparable WP for. I still need some decent blues too.
