Anyone beta test this that can tell me about the game? I've a mate who's keen on it and has been biting my ear for months to get it when it's released. I think he's been trying to con me by saying that I wouldn't have to spend every waking hour in the game to actually have fun, I'm not convinced yet though :p

What's it like? The interface and control systems sound odd but not in a particularly good way

Didnt like it one bit ... its barely an fps you just point in the general area and bullets will hit dependant on game calculations :\

I don't think it's meant to be a FPS, it's a mix of that and a typical MMORPG from what I've managed to find out so far. Sounds rather weird

The fact it's made by the same chappy who started off Ultima gets me interested, even if he is a bit mental :p

I disliked the game immensely, was in beta and tried to play as much as possible but just could not get into it at all. FPS based on essentially your stats and dice rules just does not do it for me.

Cheer guys, I'll give it a shot and see what it's like. I am a bit worried about the control system though as it just sounds down right odd!

It is a fairly standard mmo, it just has guns instead of swords. Mostly just grinding for money and equipment/ammo. The crafting might be good but I don't know as I didn't explore it fully.

Just don't expect anything new from it. It is certainly not anything like UO. UO was more of a sandbox game, TR follows the WoW style of game.

Liked it at first, but it got unbelievably repetitive after only about 4 hours playtime.

I find that with most MMORPG style games I play now, WoW was worst for me as it was so similar to others I'd played that I was bored after about 90mins :( It's not a good sign though !

Guild wars is the only MMO i would consider non-repetitive, this is due to the mission based structure following a solid storyline. In total there are around 45 missions if you include all the expansions each with cutscenes, objectives and awesome huge battles. You CAN go and grind if you want, but at the end of the day it just gives you prettier kit instead of stronger kit like in other MMOs.

Once that is done there is a wealth of endgame content, but as that sort of thing doesnt interest me much i just created a new character and did it again. I'm bored of it all now, but it's been my most played game for the past 2 years so i feel i've got my moneys worth (you dont pay a monthly sub).

Im going against popular opinion here, bought this friday and am enjoying it a lot, so much so it even dragged me away from hellgate today.

i'm in the same boat atm , i cant decide what mmo to play as well im not a hardcore gamer i used to be

lord of the rings online

Go for LOTRO, the graphics are awesome, they are about to do a DX10 upgrade (accessible now) great fun to play especially if you enjoyed the book/films.

Tabula Rasa is a colossal waste of time, the graphics appear to be from the original UT engine. The game play is mediocre, there is little content and there appears to be no skill involved. I was suckered in by "Lord British" being on the ticket but I feel more and more that he had nothing to do with Ultima Online and it was Lord Blackthorne that made that game great back in the day.
