Tabula Rasa

I was thinking about getting this game, but i'm really not sure now.

I played WoW for over a year, and I just can't see myself paying for this game. Hellgate also looked promising but i'm not sure about that either - plus there are so many more great games coming up soon that I need to save my pennies for :)

I bought it and I'm actually enjoying it. It seems more aimed at the casual gamer and the admins on the servers have been great.

It doesn't have the content of LOTRO and frankly it's not as pretty but I like having something that's not all bows, swords and hammers for once. The medieval setting has been done to death and at least this is trying to be original.

The game has been far more popular then expected and the servers are flooded most of the time, they're already planning a second EU only server.

It's very much planetside meets Crackdown (xbox 360) and has a threesome with <insert random FPS).

It won't appeal to everyone, it has most of the typical MMORPG elements but it's also very, very odd. I really enjoy it though, first online game in ages that actually makes me want to explore and learn about the workings of the game. As it's the same chap who started Ultima Online I'm expect a LOT of stuff to be added later on, it's very much in it's infancy.

i'm in the same boat atm , i cant decide what mmo to play as well im not a hardcore gamer i used to be

lord of the rings online

or

TR

It's all down to the setting, I've played both and TR is more entertaining especially if you have someone to team up with and do the smaller instance missions with. LOTRO is much prettier and has a better sound track but it's far more "normal" in terms of MMORPG, TR might win if you like the FPS style interface and ability clone your character every now and then and never have to play those low levels again.

I'm now a casual player so TR suits me more. LOTRO just took up too much time and all my mates were miles ahead of me within a fortnight, I know nobody in TR (well I have 4 friends now) but it's like learning to play games from scratch, refreshing but familiar as it both invents new ways of playing and draws on older established MMO games.

If you want visuals and sounds and a medieval style setting, go for LOTRO. If you want to log in, blast away and have fun whilst trying something that's a bit unusual and futuristic- go for TR. Don't get me wrong TR isn't ugly, but it's a bit WEIRD looking at times, where as LOTRO feels familiar and frankly it's stunning to look at.

I only played the beta briefly (to about level 11) but it gets a thumbs up from me! I almost cried when I saw a mission to kill 200 or so of the aliens but getting stuck in with a shottie was actually great fun, not to mention it didn't take ages ^^. That's in comparison to say Lotro and a kill 180 wargs deed...oh the tedium...oh the grind...

Just finished playing for the night, got up to lvl 13, really enjoying this game :)
The defend and attack the bases quests are awsome, pitched battles with about 30ish mobs attacking at the same time, everyone pitches in and helps to defend.
Great fun :)

PS: I don't see a problem with the graphics either, everything maxed out and it looks all good to me.

Thanks for that i loved the films of lotr and i have done some research also on lotr online and i quite like the champion (as the website says) its fast paced with this class type (which might be for me) i must admit i hate grinding as i get bored very quickly there needs to be a lot of action going on or have a good story line. Also i love my fps games :P

i also listen to this

which has kinda put me off TR a bit

Also knowing NCSoft there will be expansion after expansion with this game same as Lineage2

At the moment im watching a few in game movies via youtube n gamespot , looks pretty good atm

I tried this yesterday and really enjoyed it, the only problem was that there only seems to be 1 European server and it was maxed out, had to queue for a while to get on. I really didn't have a clue what I was doing though, the manual that comes with the games is one of the worst ever for an MMO and really doesn't explain much. I had great fun running round killing stuff though and I love how everyone just seems to join in and help kill things.

Whilst playing some guy called General British started chatting with people and everyone on the server seemed to go nuts over him, he was promising more European servers and loads of other fixes which made it all sound quite promising.

^ That sounds good! a shame there is only 1 EU server tho :(

if you log off do you get xp bonus?

is it easy to use with amour / weapons etc? e.g. once you get to say level 5 and need new gear is it easy to come by and choose the correct gear?

How easy is it to get a team?

is it pvp ? or pve? the base attack / def missions?

do the weapons auto lock ?

if you kill someone do you get drops / ammo etc? that are your own and no one can take

can you get TK?

I take it there is grinding also to do? or do you get in to action right away?

Not quite sure to make of this game, as I've not played the Beta or anything. After been told it's not comparable to Planetside could it be said it is a little like Neocron? That was a like a FPS but the shots, dmg etc were done on dice rolls

No

So far I havn't bought any new gear its all come from quest rewards and drops

LFG seems active, but I havnt teamed up yet, soloed up to lvl 13 so cant really answer this.

PvE

do the weapons auto lock ?
You have to aim, but there is a bit of aim assistance if thats what you mean.

Yes

can you get TK?
Not that I know of

You hit the ground running, I am only lvl 13 but that has all come from questing and base wars, didn't once feel like a grind.

Okay thanks for that Baxtor-UK , only down fall is no xp gain when offline :(

going to buy this in town today :)

Cool , give it a chance the 1st few levels can seem confusing at first, but it all comes together fairly quickly :)

I am (one of the few it seems) people that quite like TR. The EU server is packed and they are allegedly opening a new one too. They are also going to be segregating general chat into language specific, which should stop some of the infantile whining.

If you are a hardcore MMO player, avoid it, you probably wont like it. However I have put my EQ raiding days well behind me and am enjoying it on a much more casual basis.

I find it to be quite fun, YMMV.

Played the beta a while back and thought it was pretty repetitive. Maybe its improved since then, I'm tempted to give it another shot but it would be vying with Hellgate for my attention which I'm loving at the moment. Also I've only got a 3200+, 6800GT and 1GB ram. One of the things I like about Hellgate is it is perfectly playable at 1440x900. Anyone tried TR on a lower spec system?

Well ive bought TR and shall be joining you all soon , is there a clan system (a ocuk clan?)

i've managed to install it and update etc , and well it crashes for me and i get an internal error (helpful)
