Take one of these...

nice work andy look forward to hearing it, my 200 sounds crap there no chirrping just a little woosh :( the exhaust makes up for it when you nail it though. :D question what was the standard IC was it a wing mounted effort

Daz, you have an airfilter on yours don't you? You should get some turbo whiste. Mine is seriously loud  I've got an ITG filter.

Standard IC was mounted just above the radiator, where the pipe goes through the slam panel on the passenger side.

They're on the underside of the intercooler and then I cut the brackets to the right length.

The IC has holes on top and underneath. In fact, if you look at the picture from the front of the car, you can see the brackets just underneath the IC.

Yeah i do get turbo whistle i could hear it more when i fitted my exhaust  I can hear the standard recirc valve when i lift off the throttle nothing to shout about though.

That pipework looks good.

Here's a picture of the Intercooler that I have on my car (But this is not my actual car)

What power are you running, 350bhp+?

whats going on here mate? is the bumper not fixed in place? the gaps look dodgy as, right headlight doesn't look too clever either

Bumper fit is crap I know. I just wanted to get it in and on. Will sort that out another day.

Okay, been busy today... gave the ol' girl an oil change. Stuck some diesel oil in there to give it a good clean and will do another change in a few thousand miles.

See how quickly this stuff turns black though :D

Also rejigged the IC and pipework.

Instead of the left hand bend going around the bumper mount, it now matches the other side and goes in before it. Had to bend and deform the bumper mounts a bit, it's not pretty but it's solid and works well.

Can actually get my hand in to tighten the bolts now, and as you'd expect, I can fit the other fog light back in.

One of my mates polished the airbox and IC to TB pipe. Can't really tell in this picture, but it looks excellent in real life.

Also trimmed and re-mounted the bumper and headlights. I'm really pleased with the fit. Passenger side headlight is a bit wonky, but MILES better than it was before. Managed to fit the standard lower grille into place too. Should help protect the IC from damage and also helps to keep it subtle.

Because the bumper doesn't droop anymore, there's more of the IC in the bumper mouth and therefore, better cooling. I kid you not, but the pipe that goes into the IC is rather warm whereas the pipe that comes out is stone cold! Very very impressed.

I also noticed that I'd forgotten to tighten one of the jubilee clips on the IC... wondered what the high pitched whine was when booting it. All sorted now and whacked the boost up to 12psi (was at 10 before). Pulls really well now :D

Oh, ignore the cable ties in the picture... that's not a bodge, it's to stop the silicone expanding under pressure and blowing off the alloy pipework.

New numberplates are also on the way. I opted for some plain plates with a green border, Euro symbol on the left hand side and a very small Rover logo in the bottom right corner. Should look pretty smart :)

I think he means a Chargecooler

British invention

Thats as bad as saying Afterburner when you mean Reheat
Another British invention.. Hijacked

I just put the standard mesh back in to protect the IC. I'll probably change it for some silver mesh similar to the bonnet grille... I'm going for subtle with this car, didn't really want a massive hole in the bumper with a HUGE IC behind it.

Although, big IC's do give me the horn. I was thinking of an Evo 8 IC at one point.

The whole front bumper needs respraying ;) Will be done this year.

The silver mesh will probably hide it though

Bet the 12PSI feels good

Do those alloy pipes have no "beads" around the ends to help keep the hoses on? Could get some welded on it they dont? Even if the pipes dont blow off, if they are expanding that much then i imagine they would leak pressure....

I'm sure that IC you've got on there will be fine :)

I've been doing some reading.. and still need to do more :( for my FMIC build on my car.. you need an intercooler that has a good mass with a good flow..

I've got a webpage saved somewhere that shows the best intercoolers off random cars.. Impreza's etc and the tiny intercoolers do better than some of the mahooosive ones :)

Yeah, I guess it would. I'd rather leave the chicken mesh in there to protect it though than take it out completely.

Nope, just completely smooth pipes. The IC has a step though. Probably doesn't help that the pipes are polished. If they keep coming off I'll key the ends where the pipes connect and that should help them grip.

Doesn't seem to be leaking. Like I said, there was a high pitched whine before which was due to one of the hoses on the IC being a bit loose. Nothing like that any more.

Post the link, it'd be a good read :) Problem with a big IC is that if you don't need the cooling power (say you have a massive IC on a 200bhp car with a small turbo) you'd just end up sitting around while the turbo built up the pressure.
