Taking Infrared Photos

well you can set it to use a reference photo for the white balance, or you can just do it on the fly so to speak.

i've always done it on the fly, and just pointed the camera at some grass - told it to use that, and then it says "good" on the screen if it can use it.

I set it using a reference photo, but that didn't seem to work. I will try doing a measure approach next time. Perhaps it was because of the lack of real green with this time of year, but I would have expected some difference

I was a bit of a numpty today though, as I left my camera on ISO 3200, and wondered why I was only needing shutter speeds of less than 30secs at F/10 ish

Will have to give it a go again tommorow, depending on the weather!

Just seems odd that two of us both Nikon users, have exactly the same issue. I don't mind however changing the white balance after. Maybe I will have another look later this week!

Hi again :) I need some advice on histograms and checking if I am over/under exposing.

Here is my white balance shot with histogram.

Here is an image using that WB.

I struggle to get anything good from these in ps :( Any tips?

Fstop, I've been doing that but it still only gives very very poor results :(
However, I went out today and used the "measure" mode... the pictures looked a lot more like what I expected on the preview! Will let y'all know shortly :)

expect lightroom to ruin them unless you convert to 16bit tiff using something like bibble first (am assuming nikon here btw)

I am a D80 user Gex :) So you assume correctly.
I have processed the more recent batch straight into Photoshop rather than Lightroom, will post some up after dinner :)
Thanks everyone for your advice and input.
