Taking Infrared Photos

Yes it should be taken with it on. That is your custom white balance. But you have to select it in your cameras settings.

If you shoot RAW then just select the grass with the WB dropper tool.

I will post some settings later mate. I aint got a lot of time at the moment. I'm getting ready to go out. I'l post some later if I can.

Might be worth importing them into lightroom or similar, and then choosing the WB in there. I.e. use the dropper selection tool which should then use the grass etc in the picture to be white....

Not sure if you took these in RAW or JPEG though

I'm not sure with that one (sounds about right), someone else may be familar though. Play with those settings and the temperature etc, and you may get somewhere

My guess is that even though you have set a custom white balance, the software you are using to view the RAW files is stripping the WB out and leaving as if it were auto. So if you can find a way of setting it again, you should be sorted. Meaning if you had shot JPEG things probably would have been fine, but RAW has so much more control and potential. A google search or the applications help might be worth a look.

My attempts today came off exactly the same, could someone please post an unprocessed picture of theirs so I can see what I should be getting if I have set the WB right?
Would really appreciate it, I want white trees durnit! :)

Thanks for those, Fstop - the last is how all of mine are coming out.

Todays attempt isn't quite as expected :p but after some tweaking I kinda like it in its own right.

Is there any way I could do this with a Bridge camera (S9600)?
Or would I have to do it all in PP?

Fit a screw in infrared filter to the end of the lens, take custom white balance of say grass with the filter on, then shoot away! You might need to refocus once the filter is on, camera should still work with A/F.

Depending on the camera exposure times will be at least a few seconds, so tripod is essential.

Best if you can shoot in RAW.

Might have to give that a go, anybody know of a suitable filter I could try it with?

Google suggests that the Fuji S9600 takes 58mm filters. So you need to buy a 58mm screw in filter. Should be available off the innernet for around £13 or so.
Ah super, cheers!
I did have a look on google, but soon realised I wasn't quite sure what I was looking for.
Should I start off with a cheap one to get used to it, or should I dive straight in with a Hoya?

Seem to have the same problem with my D80, even though I take a custom white balance and tell the camera to use it, everything still shows as 'RED' is this normal? The WB preset was taken with the filter on and I chose the correct pic. Did you ever work out what this was Helium_Junkie?

thats not normal, no. are you sure it is using the custom white balance?

i'd just shoot in raw and then set the balance later
