Talks continue to save Woolworths

Woolworths retail has been in good shape afaik. It's the Entertainment UK thing that's been sucking all the money out of the company

On the plus side, the hobbycraft that opened in Woolworths in Plymouth about 2 months ago was selling all it's stock at half price today... Bargin-tastic :)

Have to feel sorry for the staff though :(

Went into the one in my town (Chesterfield) on Friday and they are even selling all the racking, shelving, desks, trolleys etc. I thought about buying the front doors and charging people to enter but didn't

Went in to Woolworths in Hemel Hempstead yesterday and it just looked like a jumble sale and a complete mess.

One of the staff stood at the front at 4pm shouting 'Sorry, the store has now closed' was quite funny too :D

Went into Woolworths in Worcester and it was immediatly apparent what was wrong. They just sell complete tat or overpriced branded goods.

Even with these closing down "discounts" Woolworths is still more expensive than what you can find them in Tesco for, especially box set dvd's!

Prime example, Heroes box set:

Woolworths £34.99 + 10% discount
Tesco £24.96

Yep I saw a doctor who sonic screwdriver toy in there for £9.99 & with 20% off, walked into a larger competitor & saw the same toy for a fiver!

Yeah, there are finally bargains to be had, they are going all out, they are selling every single thing in the store, the store furniture and fittings are up for grabs even. Unfortunately theres literally **** all worth buying left in the one near me, at any price.

Could go in and buy loads of PS3's and 360's but I reckon its waaay too late for that :p

My cousin got guitar hero & wireless guitar for the ps3....£23.33 :P

Was asking my gf to see what consoles were left, she was too busy looking athe the xmas stuff. By tomorrow when I get chance to go down everything will be gone!

So Woolworths are actually starting to close and we're starting to see decent prices. How about people start posting the bargains they got?

Today I picked up:
11 CDs
3 DVDs
2 toys
3 packs of pens
assorted chocolate bars and sweets
DS stylus
4 loads of batteries
photo frame

All with 80% off. I know that Woolworths 80% off isn't the same as buying online would have been so I went on a number of leading competitors and worked out how much it would have cost me to buy them off the internet today.

Total internet price (not including postage): £139.99

Total I spent: £28.84

Total saving:£110.55

A good saving I'd say :)

Would you still have bought all this if it wasn't in a sale?

I got 6 PS3 games for £70 :p

I picked up two Wii games and a PS3 game, but they said they didn't have them in despite the boxes being out (bet the staff have them out the back for themselves :D ).

No, but I'm glad to have it. The sweets will be eaten in place of other food that I would have to buy. The pens and the batteries would have bought at some stage throughout the year. In the end it's only £30 and may well mean that I choose to stay in one or more nights to listen to the CDs, saving me money, or choose to watch a DVD that I bought cheap rather than buying a new one; there are thus indirect savings. I could also save some of the items and give them as part of birthday presents throughout the year - which would mean I was directly saving money (though I probably won't).
