I realised how much better those combined taps with a hot/cold mixing lever are, now that my new flat's kitchen doesn't have one.

Hope you are convinced Mr Invader ;)

As I said, there is no right or wrong as such, but convention dictates hot on the left. The only theory I've seen behind this is that the cold tap is used more often and has a higher pressure, so it easier to control with your (usually) stronger and more agile right hand. Obviously some peoples right hands are stronger than others :p

However, they are often fitted the other way around if it involves less pipework. Plumbers are lazy.

Do you not have any sensation in your hands or something?

Not if I'm drinking directly out of the tap and it slowly gets warm instead of colder! :p

Plus its always morning when I do it.. I'm not at my best first thing in the morning..

Depends how long the taps are running.

0 secs - Cold left, cold right
10 secs - Warm left, very cold right
30 secs - BURN BABY BURN left, IM AS COLD AS ICE WILLING TO SACRIFICE right.

Our hot water gets VERY hot indeed. Half of it evaporates before it even touches the basin.
