hi there,

on my laptop explorer and task manager both take 10% of the processor time each all the time leading to the system being a lot slower than usual (is only a 1800mhz p4 laptop) so I need all the processing power available.

does anyone know why this happens and what I can do to fix it?

thanks for any help

Are they taking 10% all the time or only when the machine is idle? If it's only when the machine is idle then there's no point in worrying about it, on the other hand if they're taking 10% each when the system is running at 100% usage then it's worth digging a bit deaper to find out why.

Try something like Prime95 to stress the CPU, the folding program will be written in such a way as to only use idle CPU cycles and hence won't elbow explorer or task manager out the way to get at the CPU.
