Tattoo's

He's moistening all the bits that need moistening. If his wound isn't becoming infected, there's no problem. I wouldn't personally do it that way, but calling him an idiot for using a different method to you is pretty stupid.

nope, i just think something you spend so much money on something, to not make sure its healed, and had a type of aftercare not just letting it heal by itself. is silly.

a lot of people in this thread have used different methods to me, you dont see me calling them stupid?

if he had a cut on his arm, on such a scale, would he do the same? if so. i see that its not looking after your body in a way which we should.

I have three, my only course of action was to use Vaseline Intensive Care for a couple of days and then leave it. I can't see the point of wrapping cling film round it, seems a bit girly to me

Mine never really scabbed, perhaps a couple of dots of scab but that was it.. open air is the best policy and a sleeveless t-shirt/vest works wonder :) My first two were done years ago at a local back street biker-type joint (Mick & Bob's if any one knows Basingstoke) and they really hammered them in deep. To this day they are the clearest and best looking tattoos I or any of my friends have.

@Neon: a bit harsh mate, calling him an idiot - not everyone has to take the same course of action, and I don't really consider a tattoo as an "open wound" but more an surface irritation.

are tatoos not meant to be masculine things to show how macho your are, and hear is a thread sking what sort of moisturiser to put on it

haha

*Feels norks*

Nope - not a masculine thing here, geeeze

Neon, I know you've just got into having tatoos, but I'm afraid that doesnt make you the authority on the subject.

Some of us have had tatoos for years, some longer than you and me were born. I had thickish scabs on mine, I simply applied niviea cream and it was fine.

Everyone gets told different ways of doing things - personally I would never let mine scab up, the one time part of one scabbed up, I managed to knock it in my sleep and lose the colour from underneath.

I've looked after all three of my tattoos and Jhadurs backpiece and all of them have come out fine which is why I will stick to my method. If someone asks my advice then I give it, but as long as the tattoo looks good at the end thats all that matters to me.

Just had a couple of tattoo's done, anybody got any tips or advice on how to look after them for the first few weeks, im using savlon 2-5 times a day in a very small pea shaped amount, i was reccomended bopenthin but boots never had it in their small shop only the big one which was shut, basically anything which is for nappy rashes that has anti-septic in it is reccomended yeah?

SAVLON TO DEATH !

Just for the sake of there being a tattoo thread floating around, this is what I'm having done next. Probably sometime in the summer.

To be honest, I like both the tribal designs and the reaper. Sadly though, all the reapers I've seen have been slightly generic and somewhat tacky. That one combines them both whilst looking a bit different than all the other reapers you see.

Jumping on the "Neon, wash the sand out of your vagina" bandwagon. Pretty much any method mentioned in the thread will do, just don't pick the scabs no matter how tempting they may be.

for all having a ago at me! like i give a **** what you dig at me for, so what if youve had them for years suppose that means you know a hell of a lot more than me, yeh right. all different methods work, but not even touching a tattoo in the healing process in my eyes is stupid. sorry.

Neon; untwist your knickers.

Personaly, I leave the clingfilm on until about 6 hours after work finishes then I jump in the shower - excrutiatingly hot. As hot as you can stand it.

After rinsing the goop and lymph off under the obscenely hot shower (just let the water flow over it do it, don't touch it), I lightly pat it dry and re-wrap in cling film.

I do the next thing the morning after, that night and the next morning.

Then I just keep it supple with a small amount of PrepH or Savlon.
