Teach me vegas

Was in LA a few months back, if there is any other blight on the US that compare with the grime of Vegas it can only be LA tbh!

I only have a couple of evenings now and then a week of evenings at CES. Just looking for hints and tips how not to get ripped off at casino bars and anything remotely interesting to do in the evenings.

jeez.

quit moaning and enjoy somewhere different in this world. or next time refuse to go.

some people like it, some people dont. im sure you're town is the same.

casino bars are expensive but heres a thought. dont drink at them. go to walmart or similar and buy some booze and drink in your room on your own. saves you going out.

you seem like an outdoors type so why not go to some of the national parks or the grand canyon?

LA to me is great, lovely beaches with warm water. city for shopping and eating and hills with parks for walking. a great mix of everything. i accept some people dont like LA as with anywhere else in the world.

anyways im out of this thread now. enjoy you're stay.

No, my idea of fun is hurtling down 40* degree slopes in 3ft of fresh powder, climbing the highest mountains in the US, kayacking, backcountry hiking and wilderness survival, rock climbing, MTBing, photographing moose and grizzly bears, diving in Maui, surfing, sky diving, skid touring, or just plain exploring beautiful scenery and places of historic and cultural significance.

Based on your list, you could do the following in Vegas -

Desert quad biking
Jet skiing on Lake Mead
Hiking in Death Valley

You can do none of those things in Vegas because none of those places are in Vegas. Except perhaps the Quad biking.

It's like saying you can go mountain climbing in San Francisco. Death Valley is several hours drive just to the park entrance! It's like saying you can go to a snowdome with real snow in Bristol because you can drive to Milton Keynes :p

Fine.....

Edit - You can do the following near* Vegas -

Satisfied!? :p

I would far rather vist Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria. Vegas is just a regurgitated festering cess pool spilling out on the dessert.

Just been down to get some breakfast and nothing is open at 7am. What kind of hotel doesn't serve breakfast at 7? I got a meeting to get to at 8am

Your company are cheapskates it seems... thus the naff hotel :D

Well most large urban areas aren't going to offer you any of that unfortunately.

You can drive construction equipment in some big outdoor playground, swim with sharks (in a tank), swim with dolphins (in a pool)... and that's about it - as far as outdoor activities go there isn't too much for you to do really unless you hop in a car and get out of Vegas for a bit...

Pool parties and clubs not your thing? There is some organised bus tour taking people to different clubs which you can buy tickets for...

Perhaps grab a show or go play poker... enter a tournament

The hotel you are in isn't a proper Vegas hotel, it's in Summerlin which is a good way from the fun. Get a cab to the Encore and grab one of the best meals of your life in Botero. Then walk through to the Wynn and take a look at the Ferrari garage.

Cross over to fashion show mall and bag some bargains (say hi to my personal shopper Rusty in Neiman Marcus if you like, he'll take care of you).

Walk over the street in to the Palazzo and Venetian and have a few beers in St Marks square. Then head down to Caesars and eat an amazing buffet at Bacchanal, looking at the parts used for The Hangover. Do some more shopping in the Forum shops, visiting Marc Jacobs and getting bargains for a female friend.

Walk to Bellagio, grab a gelato and watch the fountains. Be amazed by them. Then walk to Cosmopolitan and have a gold standard burger in Holsteins or th best sushi in Blue Ribbon.

Walk through Crystals and check out stuff that is scary expensive before visiting A.Ria and enjoying the best slice of pizza from 550 degrees and some fun slots.

Head up the the Mandarin Oriental lobby bar for one of the best views in Vegas at night, and amazing cocktails.

Grab the monorail to Mandalay Bay and head to the four seasons, taking in a few drinks in Press for an oasis of calm, then head up to mix lounge for another great view.

Get your cab back to the suncoast and weep in to the pillow.

Ended up working to 12am Tuesday, grabbed a beer and played some video black jack, tripled my money (Ok, $1> $3) and went to bed. Wednesday was a mad rush starting at 7am but I did get to pick up a vegas model to take to our film set (sadly not that type of movie, just an ad campaign to show at CES).

I will be back in a few weeks. On the flight out I had a good look at the Vegas snow bowl and the spring mountains, will try to take my touring skis next time for a moonlight ski tour.

I might also be staying on the strip but it is undecided yet. There are strong business reasons why we had to be way out in the middle of no where.

oh I did grab a liquid lunch at the Riviera (looks god awful in there). So one more reason I hate vegas - finding real beer is impossible in any of the casinos. So sad in a country with so much microbrew and amazing beers you get stuck with miller, bud and coors :-(

Nah, that's really boring... You should just go to somewhere and get so drunk you can't remember the night, then rinse and repeat several times a week.. that's fun... Obviously...

Public House in the Venetian has a first-rate selection of beers.

Dude, you sound like you can't do without alcohol... Maybe you should think about your consumption... Many people don't need alcohol in the evening to enjoy themselves, especially going somewhere cheap and drinking in their room...

I got the impression most of the theme casinos were designed for Americans ,specifically those that had never actually been to Europe. Plaster, plywood and paint don't particularly impress... Just seems like a cheap film set.

Back in Vegas, staying in the Excalibur for the week. The whole of Vegas is mobbed with CES visitors!

i loved Vagas and cant wait to go back.

We stayed in the cosmopolitan.

Dont buy a drink at any casino bar just sit at a game with a couple of singles in and a hot girl will come and take your order for tip only!

1 show to see Absienth.
Want loads of different beers, go to the pub in Monte Carlo, over 400 beers to choose from on-tap!
