Don't buy just yet, wait until the weekend when the update is released as TF2 will probably be half price then. (This is based upon the fact that there is always a free weekend and half price offer whenever an update is released)

New map idea sounds fun, can't wait to try it out.

Really? You didn't sense the mockery of this in the update page linked at the start of the thread? Or you do actually think that Valve think's a false history of Hats spanning 3 paragraphs are interesting?

I would recommend the following two steps to understanding:

1. Place tongue firmly in cheek
2. go back and try again.

It's clearly just a bit of fun. And i for one welcome our new fun filled overlords of PC gaming.
 
Gah, just as I was thinking "Hmm, I've been getting a little bored with TF2, might be time to invest in something new" This comes along and tempts me back. And the 3 weeks of no internet after I move house isnt going to be fun either!

Hats Explained

So what is a hat?
It's something you put on your head to look different and cool. It does not make you more accurate, faster or increase the damage you do. It will however distract people who think "OMG he's wearing an uberkool hat he must be 1337!!!!11oneeleventy" allowing you to pwn them to oblivion as they stop and stare at your awesomeness.

Wow, how do I get one?
You wait.
You wait some more.
You get kicked for being AFK too long.
You join another server and decide to actually play the game this time, all the while silently wishing for that moment to come.
Then finally, when you least expect it, a message pops up at a completely random time and place saying you have found.....
...yet another axtinguisher.
You swear, but you can't stop playing. It's got you now.
Time passes...
Then, some weeks later when you've forgotten all about the hatlust, one will be bestowed upon you, rewarding your commitment.
You let out an uncontrolable shreak of joy, waking up everyone in a 100 metre radius. They are all jealous of you now and you love it.

Can't I just buy one or something?
No, they don't want your money richboy. Go spend daddies millions on a new polo pony or a manacure for you and your labridoodle.
Hats are a reward. They are earned with wasted hours and blistered fingers. They are a badge of honour showing that you've sacrificed yourself in the name of the game.
Of course this will all change if they introduce a swapsies system.

So now you know.

Whilst you could argue that them giving these updates away is bad business you could equally argue that these updates and the promise of future free updates is what drives newcomers to buy it in the first place.

The drops work mathematically as so:
You stand a chance of a drop every 25 mins. At this time you have a 25% chance of getting a drop if you get me. So you guaranteed at least one drop for every 100 mins of uninterrupted game play.
Hats will have a 1.5% drop rate once all of the new hats are out, atm it stands you have a 0.6% chance of getting a hat.

Also, i think it means classless like drunk demo and bigot soldier update.
 
Yes I wish they'd fix the unlocks, I've got no hats when I'd quite like one or two but seem to get constantly bombarded by endless sandviches and KKs etc. etc..

It's getting really annoying when you're in the middle of playing and yet another totally-useless-because-you-already-have-three-of-them unlock pops up. I'm starting to wish you could totally opt-out of the unlock system, which is presumably not what valve were aiming for.
 
Its not as if KoTH is new :P Theres been KoTH custom maps around for ages lol

Its a lot like a PL map except the spam is in one place all the time instead of slowly moving through the scenery lol

I didn't complain about anything.

I just stated that there might be an opportunity for Valve to introduce a micro payment structure for custom clothing. It's a point that was up for discussion, not an opinion.

Other posts I made were answering comments made by others.
