tearing... dvi vs vga

Games play fine, if you cant aim at 30fps its because your a bad shot.

That is your opinion, to which you are fully entitled... but most FPS game players will know it to be incorrect :) Go and put forward that view on the official UT2004 forums and you will be roundly ridiculed.

if you was to join a 32+ bf2 server with a lot of good players and a close combat sort of map. theirs no way you would handle the gameplay at 30fps.

you say you can play fear with a constant fps of 100... what settings is this with

Sorry meant prey, get those 2 mixed up. I have never had problems with aiming because I've never found the targets small enough to need aiming that accurate because unless the chars run at an unusually high speed there isnt going to be much movement in the 33ms between the frames.

Anyway the issue is because you have your settings too high, or you are using double buffering and your card is running below your monitors refresh rate (in which case you should not be using vsync). If the game does not support triple buffering you can try forcing it through the drivers, you should always use vsync when triple buffering is avalible.

yes im sticking to vsync, and using the forced on setting for tripple buffering. I would have thought a brand spanking new geforce 7 series card would handle it at least with everything on medium.

Im hoping this card im getting with the acer AL1916WS will be fast enough to play at 1440 x 900, vsync on and everything on high.

HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X1900 XT ICEQ 3 SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-053-HT)

An x850xt can get 60fps on max settings at 1600x1200 so if your not getting that at only 2/3 of the res something is wrong.

If you expect 60fps for the latest games though only the best cards will perform.

The reason I don't use v-sync is because it causes my mouse to lag CONSIDERABLY, although I only really badly notice this is CS 1.6, I'm sure it affects all other games to a degree. Please, don't try to tell me that I shouldn't/can't be getting lag as I've looked this up for a very long time now and it's a very well known problem with it.

Its because you dont have enough vram. ;) Triple buffering uses more gpu memory and if your card doesnt have enough you get input lag.
