Tech you own vs. Tech you use

I was thinking, dangerously, as I just got a free Raspberry Pi as a part of an order I put in and I have a ton of tech. Most of which gets infrequent use!

I have:

- Acer netbook (win 7 starter)
- Asus EePC (linux)
- Last version Macbook Pro (8GB RAM)
- New Macbook Pro (16GB RAM SSD blah)
- Lenovo T410 (8GB RAM old work win 7 machine)
- Nexus 7 v1
- iPad 2
- Mac Mini (pre 2011, 8GB RAM & SSD added)
- 2 Raspberry Pi model Bs
- 2 Xbox 360s
- PS3
- Wii

I have things like my NAS and stuff which is used daily, which doesn't really count, but the only things that I use on a daily basis are the mac mini (media centre for the TV) and my macbook.
The kids use the wii or xbox a few times a week maybe and the Mrs, since she got her Nexus 5 never bothers using the iPad!

I would assume on here that most are the same? Or do you use all of your tech frequently?

I don't have anything near that amount

- PC (daily use)
- Huawei Ascend W1
- Work laptop

....and that is about it!!

Custom built Desktop PC and a Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone.

That's all I have and all I need. I simply don't find the gap between my PC and my phone being worth several hundred pounds of difference (to but things like tablets/laptops).

My mother on the other hand, a self-proclaimed technophobe, has a desktop PC, Laptop, Nexus Tablet and has just bought a Moto G smartphone.

Main computer - daily
Media server / seedbox - daily
DJ rig - fortnightly
Phone - daily
Tablet - on and off, not used it in a while

I have a habit of buying new gear and then rarely using it -

Kindle paperwhite - used everyday
ipad 2 - gets used everyday either by me or the kids
Macbook air - gets used 4 or 5 times a week for uni work
OCUK high end gaming laptop - maybe once a week tops
Xbox one - maybe once a week tops
PS4 - maybe once a week tops
Wii U - maybe once a month tops
3DS - Maybe used it twice ever

I dread to think about all the tech i have bought, hardly used and then sold on.

Smartphone - used on a daily basis
Tablet - used for browsing in bed
PC - gaming and more intensive tasks
Games Console - most infrequently used, tend to only used them nowadays for the big exclusive games.

I don't buy stuff I know I won't use...

Self-built Pentium P4 Tower (my own, now retired, not used, recycling pending but hard to part with)
Self-built i5 2500k Tower (my own, used daily for personal and admin)
Unknown High Spec Tower (belongs to work, used occasionally for hardware programming)
Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop (my own, used daily for software development)
Xbox 360 self-reconditioned (my own, not used for a year)
Galaxy S2 (was my own, recently lost/stolen, now blocked) :(
Nokia C7 (borrowed, in use every day)
Nokia N85 (old back up phone, emergency use only)
Some STM32F programmable units (belong to work, used occassionally)

Wonder what I've forgotten...

Gaming pc - never off, constantly in use from the moment i get home
2nd gaming pc - currently got a dodgy mobo so unusable, but plan to make a work pc once i can find some money for a new mobo
android phone - used for the odd text or phone call and as a wifi hotspot when im in school
samsung galaxy tab II - used infrequently, however more used at my local tabletop gaming club for pdfs and rule checking also netflix when i go to bed

other than that i dont think i have much else, used to have an xbox 360 and 3ds however i sold them as they weren't used very often and just wanted the money for them. also used to have a mac mini but sold it for more or less the same reason

Own and Use
Self-Build Gaming Rig (amd fx8120, 8gb ram, r9 270x)
Acer Aspire 5755G Laptop (8gb ram, SSD, i5)
1st Gen Nexus 7 32GB

XBOX360 Elite

Own but it just sits there working away
HP Microserver N54L (8gb RAM, 50GB ssd, 4 x 2TB WD Reds)

I think the only pieces of tech that I own that I don't use regularly are my consoles.

PC, laptop, phone, tablet, kindle, music systems, camera, etc. all get regular use.

Phone & PC Daily
3DS rarely
Tablet at my parents house, so no use there.

Thats it, no need for any other gubbins.

I horde so much tech its silly!

Use daily:
i5 Work laptop
i5 Sony Vaio Laptop 13"
Sony Z2 phone

Stuff that I hardly use:

HP DL360 G6 Server - for demo's that sits under my desk powered down 80% of the year!
several laptops, various core2duo models...! (several = atleast 10!)
cisco routers and switches for CCIE but since sit in a box...
3 tablets - 1 samsung tab 2 and 2 £50 models.
Playstation 3
Wii
Xbox 360
Chromecast
NEST... what a waste of money that was!

I use none of these things! maybe I should sell them!

Self build gaming rig(amd fx 8320, r9 280x) - use daily
Nexus 5 - use daily
Samsung s3 - back up phone
Htc 8s - 2nd back up phone
Samsung tab 3 - few times a week

Self built gaming desktop PC - mostly gaming when other half is at work.
Laptop - for day to day stuff, downloading films and shows etc etc

PS3 - Last of Us is about the only thing i've used it for in a year or so

Hoarded stuff that never gets used - PS2, Broken Iphone 4S, about 3 other old non smart phones sitting in my man draw.

OP why do you have so many devices that are not necessary? Are you an impulse buyer of new tech?
