If you do it, make sure it's a dentist and not a home kit or one of those new "smile clinics" or whatever they're called.

The EU Commission is looking into banning them. Technically only dentists should do this but under current law, there's a loophole that means they can kind of get away with it as cosmetics. Some of the chemicals, if you search for them, are known to cause birth defects and other such nasties. Either way, heard some horror stories about people having overly sensitive teeth forever more, discolouration, roughness etc etc so just be careful ;)

Might be a bit late for him to get birth defects

Dentist whitening would probably give you the Simon Cowell look. If you want to get rid of coffee/fag stains, use a toothpaste with baking soda in it.

im not gay! :p just come out of a long term relationship and thought id treat myself. if its anything under £250 ill maybe do it as long as it lasts at least a year

I know this is a slightly radical solution to your problem, and may be a little risqué for most.... But how about talking to your dentist?

Or at the very least speaking to the surgery's reception about it?
