Tekken 8 Official Thread

Special Style is useless and all Rage Arts are -15, which means you can launch punish them with 95% of the roster.

The only exception is Asuka's that can be charged and leaves her at +3 with pushback IIRC but you can sidewalk that AFAIK.

I'm only in Red ranks with the chars I've tried so far because I spend more time trying stuff out than actually sitting in Ranked but even in ranks as low as Reds people start to be a little more hesitant with random Rage Arts.

Well, that's why. You have no idea how the game is played so you struggle and think Rage Arts are unfair.

Rage Arts are the least of T8's problems when it comes to balancing and if you don't understand you can launch them and punish heavily, then you are going to struggle no matter what.

Unfortunately, you got into a game that's been evolving over the years and is one of the most complex out there.

You can't just expect to get into Ranked and have "fun" matches where everyone is trying to win and you don't know something as basic as how to bait out a Rage Art and punish it.

It's a "you" problem, don't blame the game for it. We knew from the get go it was going to be more aggressive, that's how it's been marketed and that's what we've got.

And I'm not even a fan of Rage Arts myself.

Watch a guide on the basics, learn from it and then try again. If you just want to press some buttons online then disregard this advice but don't complain that things you don't understand how to counter are cheap.

You can always play single player modes or find complete beginners to play with in lobbies, no need to go into ranked if you're not ready.

The first mistake you made was getting into a competitive multiplayer environment with people that have legacy experience (30th anniversary this year) and expecting to have "fun" and "reasonable" matches.

3 losses in a row is nothing, people who've been learning these games had to go through much worse:p

Anyways, that's my take on it and it's not to discourage anyone. That's just the reality of fighting games.

Agreed. Sort the thread title out @Amatsubu :D

Done:)

The Rage Art / Special can be blocked if you aren't constantly attacking. I really struggle against constant attackers, something I need to work on.

A lot of people do, me included and even people much better than me can still lose to mindless pressing sometimes because there are a lot of knowledge checks so if you struggle with something, watch a replay and try out different solutions. Turning on framedata will also help as you'll see when they press at minus frames. The game will also automatically show you recommended punishes during a replay and you'll be able to test them on moves you left unpunished during match.

The replay feature is game changer and they completely smoked other fighting games with it when it comes to learning.

Everything that's at least -10 is a guaranteed punish and even if a move is safe but heavily minus, they lose their turn and shouldn't be pressing afterwards.

People throw out a lot of unsafe stuff so it's really important to make them pay for it.

Remember that a single jab is your best friend, fast, quick recovery, +1 on block and +8 on hit so try it out for interrupting and if you have a decently fast counter hit launcher you can try it to see if they press. At +8 they're basically at your mercy. You can hit low, you can hit mid, throw, whatever. They have to guess or mash their panic buttons but a lot of them won't work vs. fast options when they're so minus. They can't really step either unless you use a very slow move.

And this is a situation you can create with a single jab on hit:D

You have to show them they can't just mash in your face. Use df1 as a mid check as well if they start ducking too much.

You can even try a standard crouch jab of you're unsure as it'll often interrup mashers, commonly known as a **** jab:D

As for panic Rage Arts, you have to do staggered offense, some empty dashes into block etc.

A single jab again is a godsend because you can bait them into pressing RA but the recovery is so quick that you'll be able to block in time.

Hope this little essay helps:p For now, just have fun and when you stagnate in ranks, that'll mean you've found your level and you'll see what to improve.

Got to Mighty Ruler on PS5 after a couple of days break, a bit tiresome since people often don't rematch but now I can think about who to play seriously, got a couple of chars to Tenryu on PC as well.

Might juggle chars a bit still since getting into Reds is super-easy and then it become a bit of a struggle due to the above so I'll happily practice some more.
