Telephone Preference Service.

I tend to just hang up even if they are in the middle of talking. It's a bit rude I suppose but it's better than just shouting abuse at them. In my house we have two telephone lines, one of which we use as a fax line on rare occassions (it came as a package with cable TV). It used to ring all the time and I always just picked the handset up and put hung up straight away since no one would call that number if they had a proper reason for calling. I signed that up to the TPS now I never hear that annoying noise anymore.

I recently signed the other line up too but that hasn't come into effect yet. I should apologise in advance if any indians have a legitimate reason for calling since I just hang up if I hear and indian accent.

I had a call the other night too, someone from T-Mobile I believe. I've been registered with the TPS for a couple of years now, and I always check the "no marketing" box when signing up to anything. As a result (and I was interrupted in the middle of something important), I wasn't exactly polite and told them never to call me back. It's their own fault if they aren't going to check their lists though.

Still get the odd one now and again, but 1 or 2 a week i can handle. We take diverted calls for a vet some evenings and that no. was a nightmare until we got him on tps - we would get calls in the middle of the night - usually american business 'surveys' - i tended to get very colourful with those **** :)

I got a call from "Bob" today, who certainly didnt suit the name. I think I will be signing up to the TPS when I can be bothered, even if it saves one call coming through its worth it.

Been on the TPS for three years now. In that time had one UK call, one mention of TPS and the line goes dead. Only other calls we've had have been from US competition lines saying you've won so and so and call us back and so on.

On the whole I'd say yes it's good and it works. I guess any UK company thay calls you is working off an out of date telephone list and can't afford to buy an up to date one. :p The US calls you can't avoid.

I am tempted to set up an 0906 number and then give that out to companies, so that way you can just stick them on hold when they call and make a bit of money off them instead :)

I did not know you could do that. Have you got a link plz?
