I live in a first floor flat. I am considering moving to an EV. I have a reserved external (but off-street) parking spot. Running a cable from my flat to my parking pitch is not an option. So tell me about your experiences of installing charging points. It will need to be weather-resistant and secure - I don't want neighbours using it. Not unless they pay the electricity cost anyway. :)

It sounds like you need to speak to a company who installs these things given the additional complexity of it being a residential car park.

Why? Is having a separate meter that difficult?

Its not the meter per see (although that will generate a extra standing charge for you*) But rather you need a connection to the public supply network for it to be connected to, you'd not have much change from a grand for this (only the DNO can do this), you'd need a suitable building or enclosure to put supply, meter and your own swtchgear in

*though i think these day there might be some suppliers with a higher per unit rate and no standing charge.

Well yes, but I had hoped that some here might have had some experience of this.

Seems very unlikely unless anyone happens to be in a building management role for a corporate who are having these put in?

This is going to be a extremely expensive I would imagine, I am not even sure if you’ll manage it at all as a corporate would at least use their own supply or have a building to house the meters etc.
