Tell me about the Toyota Celica....

330i and 330cd Sport are exactly the same for me, after asking Prudential what it'd cost to change my policy over. Haven't tried a 330ci actually, but I'd assume as the 330cd is the same it should also be the same.

330i's are for wideboys anyway, 530i's are better ;)

Right so after all that agro and you accusing me of making it all up you're admitting theres an obvious difference....

You sir....are fat! :D

I don't believe we were discussing the actual cars before?

You jumped in when I was proving my point about the 330i, OllyM and Peter brought the 5 series in not me.

You also asked about me making stuff up, what am I smoking, etc

Theres no need to be unfriendly when theres a difference in findings, that's a flaw in character.

Err, you started this off by saying to me...

Where do you get your insurance from!?

You should give up! Theres a difference and you know it.

You've just proved your own point wrong there I assume? :p

What details was that with?

Me, with 1NCB. Their prices for other cars (jap hot hatches) are not so favorable though.
I'll try it with a 330i just now.

That's because you said

Rubbish. I insure my 530i for less than £2k in my own name. FWIW a 330ci costs exactly the same.

I focused on the comment Rubbish and let the 530i in because like you I assumed they are the same but I also realised when you actually had a quote that the initial point was about the 330i so something was not right.

You assumed the price would be the same, when it is infact not. Now as I said in my original post it would be hard to insure.

What did you get for a 330i coupe?

*edit* nm, I think I've proved my point. I wish selected few in motors wouldn't hound someone for finding something different, you can't always be right, no one can.

BACK ON TOPIC!!!!!!

Thats an ST 185, ST 205, GT, GT4. its a standard ST, just a later model I think

Careful, the ST on the 6th gen celica (the bug eyed one) is the 1.8 econo-rubbish car :P

put simply the celica generations are referred to by STxxx

ST16x = 4th generation
ST18x = 5th generation
ST20x = 6th generation

and the new cheese wedge shaped ones aren't ST, but they're generation 7. You are looking at the ST20x celica.

Now, the NA cars are STxx2 and the GT-Four cars are STxx5, so going by that logic ST202 is the plain, NA car and the ST205 is the GT-Four.

The 6th gen car has both the ST (1.8 115hp), the GT (2.0l 170ish hp) and the jap import SS1 SS2 and SS3 (which are all badged as GT confusingly). the SS1 has a low power engine (130hp) the SS2 is prob the most equivalent to our GT (170hp) and the SS3 has the GT-Four suspension, large rear wing and usually the BEAMS 200hp engine.

My recommendation would be to stay away from the SS3, the suspension is a pain in the arse and expensive when it breaks (and certainly NOT worth it on the NA, even with the BEAMS engine). Try and find an SS2 or a UK GT model. You can instantly tell the difference between a UK and a JAP car (cause most imports use UK numberplate size on the front) by looking at the climate / aircon unit in the car. JAP cars have climate control and one wheely dial with a temperature on it. UK cars have 2 wheely dials with fan speed and one with temperature on it.

Good luck :p

Soooo this thread exploded while I was out... gone from celicas to insurance problems!

I am going to get some quotes next week on the following cars:

-VX220
-330ci
-530i (just to see if I get close to OllyM - We live in the same town and both aged 19 with similar driving experience!)
-Celica 1.8 VVTLi T Sport 3d
-A3 2.0T

The renewal on my 1.6 SE Golf 2001 with business miles is coming to £1900 cheapest + £450 excess. Just me on the policy, which could be why.

All you poor kids paying 3 grand for insurance.

A bit of tweaking (lower the excess, protect the NCB) and it eventually came out at £219.

recently sold my TSport for a company car.

Unfortunately, havent got long to write masses on them, suffice to say GET ONE!

really miss mine :( Awesome car, quick, feel a bit "special" due to the driving position, and if you drive it like you stole it then the performance will be more than enough.

You can get supercvharger conversions for them, but you're looking at like 4k, and tbh it would ruin the feel of the engine probably.

The chassis is phenominal, one of the best FWD habdling cars about probably.

get the 190BHP, TSport if you can afford it, and avoid the 140 - it quits just when it gets interesting. Well spec'd, you'll love it seriiously - as long as you dont mind planting it into the red line.

There's been lots of discussion about new vs old celicas, and the 190 new is as quick as the GT4 (stock) in everything except 0-60, this is because the GT4 is 4WD (tho there a few that disagree, in purely theoretcial terms its as close as to be no different)
