Hi all
I have a Samsung spinpoint SP2403C and i suspect it's starting to play up. Firstly, it has caused a number of 'Run CHKDSK /F' BSODs in Windows, and even an FSCK error 3 in linux. Secondly, it runs at an average of 36 odd degrees even under no load. This seems quite hot to me, as my friend, who has the same HDD, has his running at 24 degrees without a fan, and i have a 120mm fan in front of mine.
Does this overload in temperature mean that the drive could be on its way out, or is it nothing to worry about? Also, will OCUK/Samsung accept an RMA purely because a drive is running at a higher then normal temperature?

Thanks in advance

36C is well within operational limits for this HDD

However the spinpoints have unreliable temp sensors, you should add 10C to them... the one spinpoint I do have often shows 9C hehe... can't say I like these drives.

I have 2 x Seagate 7200.10's and 1 x Samsung Spinpoint HD160JJ. The 2 Seagate's are running at 32C and the Samsung is at 35C. All 3 are behind a 120mm intake fan, and I have no problems whatsoever.

I have a sp2004c 200Gb Samsung. I bought it because it was well recommended. This is the first bad thing Ive heard about it, and as far as hard drives go; for me its working 100% fine.

According to Everest my 2 spinpoints are running at 38C & 40C. I have very little airflow through my case though, but I've never had any problems with them.

hmm i was under the impression that that was rather hot for a hdd. BUt it seems others have similar temps. I also ran HUTIL and it didnt report any problems so i guess it was a figment of my imagination!

Thanks guys

i've got 5x400gb spinpoints, can't fault them

that temperature is nothing to worry about, run the samsung tools on it (google for them!) it'll tell you if the drive is knackered
