Hi there

Well its been done in the past, which is OcUK trackday.

Now for me I absolutely love Donnington and I believe its re-opened now, anyone know anything solid on this?

Also considering Bedford as its a good safe track, nowhere near as technical as Donnington or Oulton but cheap and safe, plus very high speed.

But after watching this weekends Grand Prix and seeing what an EVO can do at SPA, it got me wondering as to how far away Spa really is and how much it would cost?

lol @ that evo.

"i wont bother with opposite lock, i let the lectronics deal with it, besides its what i paid for them for" CRUNCH

Spa is quite far away, but not too bad at the same time, around a 3-4 hour drive from calais, a lot of people I know who've been combine it with a trip to the ring as it's only about 70 miles from it.

Cost isn't all that much either for the day itself, comparable to what a day would cost at somewhere like Silverstone/Brands Hatch e.g. £250-£350 (and upwards depending on the company and if they want to keep out riff raff!), then of course the additional cost of the fuel to get there and staying over, you'd have to be a mental to do it all in one day.

I tend to use this site: http://www.racedays.co.uk/n_diary_select.php

Posted before, but you better be careful with Evos at Spa :p

God thats an awful noise, hearing that crunch. :(

Really trying to figure out how on earth he did that, he seemed to be fine on corner exit, did he just crap himself seeing cars coming out, stabbed the brakes causing the car to unbalance, plus his turbo seemed to be dumping.

I found with the X if you overcook it you have two option back off and the rear-end will come out, or nail it and power through it, but obviously what works on road to a track can differ greatly due to different speeds involved and traction...But I have found the X to be a lot more progressive and far less snappy than say older EVO models, infact considering its heavier it does seem to handle better than older lighter EVO's, especially on UK roads. I'd far rather a progressive car than one which bites your ass when you get it wrong.

If I did it, then I'd take like a 3-4 day holiday, so a day at SPA, rest day and go do some exploring, then a day at the ring, rest day and then head back. :)

Sounds like a pretty good plan to me! :)

We accidentally went past spa on our trip to the ring back in July, I was very surprised how close it was to it, if it wasn't absolutely hammering it down at the time I would've tried to have a nosey round the area.

Was a woman iirc :(

In all honesty I'd happily do track days in dry/damp.

But AD08's I've found on the road in wet conditions get be a bit like a bar of soap in the shower. They really don't cope with standing water.

On the way to the Southern meet when it hammered it down, I was sitting at 70mph on the motorway and things felt quite light, any faster the water would have lifted the car of the road, but it was very heavy downpoor. Just embarrasing to see normal everyday cars blasting past at 90mph, but at the same time it amazes me as to why some people drive so quick in such poor conditions, should they need to stop fast well it won't happen.

So I'd not be too confident about doing a wet trackday on them, some say on track in wet they are fine as they get heat into them, they are OK in the wet, slippery but full of feedback and progressive so I guess its that what lets you push on as you know where the grip is and can feel it, so they do give confidence in all conditions to push.

For real, or just assuming because of how it looks completely un-explainable how the car lost control when it really should have not?

For real. I remember it being posted last time. She was local to the circuit too, she wasn't just a general track day person either. I'll try and find the thread.

Remember this Gibbo?:)

Yes it was an epic day, only let down by the knackered brakes on the CSL, at one point Mark (Firestar) was genuinely worried as the seats were vibrating and moving in the car as the disc were so badly warped.

I think down to brakes alone and the EVO's progressivness closer to the limit would make it the better and faster car on track. However I think stick a pair of pros behind the wheel and I'd expect the CSL to be quicker or it to be dead equal. :)

I would love to try a track. And I now have a car to go with it :)

Bedford is best track for first time, huge run offs. :)

Donnington is OK, I came off couple of times my first time there but was plenty of run off, most corners are fine, but there is a couple where you can hit stuff. Best thing is to be more careful where their is barriers and play more on the corners with plenty of run off and when your not surrounded by cars. :)

Do they even do trackdays at Spa? I'm pretty sure they didn't before as part of it was a public road until recently so it would only open if there was a race event on.

I'm fortunate enough to have raced at Spa and it will go down as one of the best weekends of my life, sitting at the bottom of Eau Rouge waiting to come out of the paddock will be in my mind forever - it's just so steep, much more than it looks on TV. It took me all night pretty much to drive there, but I was towing with a two wheel car trailer so couldn't exactly get any decent speed going.
