Terra Nova

Good God, I wasn't the only person on OcUK that actually enjoyed Outcasts and wanted a second series

What with the helicopter business at the end, I could hardly contain my excitement! It did have potential!

TerraNova looks like it could be cool. Ill be watching!

Its cliche ridden, predictable, and nothing we've not seen before. But ill stick it out for now.

This TBH, it's not particularly good but still better than 90% of the stuff on TV. Good if you've got nothing better to do. Can't really add any more opinions until it's aired over here.

Uuurgh!

I will keep watching for now but that first episode was gash. Emo teen, stupid kid, tough dad, vulnerable mum, hints of aliens, rebel settlements blah blah gah.

Will continue watching but really not impressed so far, just reeks of another Spielberg money maker with no real effort put in.

Why can no one do realistic dinosaurs? Jurassic Park still remains the best.

The six mins of dino's in JP cost a shed load of money, not even Spielberg could get the tv execs backing for that kind of expense, given the fickle nature of tv audiences.

The only thing i want to know is, how come we've got armour piercing ammunition that can punch straight thru an inch of armour plate, yet we can't swiss cheese a dino using the self same ammo?.

I quite liked the first two episodes, it's bubblegum sci-fi but unfortunately that seems to be the only sort of sci-fi we'll get for the moment. Maybe my expectations were lowered by the awfulness of Falling Skies.

Main thing that bugs me though, they sent a probe back through the time portal thingy, then when they didn't dig it up in future they concluded that it must be an alternate time stream or something so sent people back. That's one hell of a leap of faith, especially since sending people back could mean something happens to the probe. Oh well, that's always the problem with time travel plots I guess.

Oh yeah the wimpy guns were a bit of an issue too - what were they firing? rock-salt?

That was exactly my thinking with the probe.

In the space of 85 million years, would it not be possible...or even likely that

I echo other peoples thoughts, i like the premise so far, and will be watching the rest, it far surpasses Falling Skies. However, i really want the son to be...removed or at least grow up a little bit. The didn't find the daughter as annoying, not by far.

a) the probe might not be on earth anymore
b) It might have been damaged or destroyed.

What i also don't understand is that, apparently they can't control where the portal leads them, as in it's stuck linked to 85 million years in the past, yet when people go through, they're arriving at different points in time? :S So they must have some sort of control over its?

they should have maybe altered the story so some emergency ment the people had to use the portal before they were all ready and the portal then closed... (maybe a terrorist group thought time travel would mess up time and blew up the portal)

meaning they lost any access to advanced tech / manafacturing... they could have some high tech items / guns but avoid using them because power / ammo is limited.

they are then stuck in the past with a Firefly series type scenario where there is some ultra high tech mixed in with old tech....

I must have missed this part...please enlighten me :)

the rock carvings the son and bird found down the waterfall in the 1st episode, she says she thinks they might be "equations", but obviously the implications of there being advanced inteligent beings and is something that should be kept secret by the teens for fear they get told off for........ going outside...??!!

SPOILERS FOLLOW IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE SECOND EPISODE...

I thought that was cleared up in the final scene with the two sixers, they mention that it's Nat Taylor's son doing it to mess with him or the like. That's why Taylor didn't want anyone out by the falls?

EDIT: Shamelessly stolen from the first google link in my search...

It's revealed by Mira that Nathaniel's son is the one carving them. Nathaniel can't erase the carvings, even if he doesn't want anyone to see them, since they are his only link to his son. Mira states that Nathaniel's son carves the symbols on the rock to throw it in his father's face. Every time the son comes closer to finding out the real reason behind Terra Nova, he carves another part of the answer into the wall. Mira says it's to remind Nathaniel about the real reason they are there, control the past, control the future. So are the two time periods really in different time streams? Mira says that the carvings are the key.

I had actually posted before the end of the second episode having just seen the equations.

I barely watched the second episode I was having more fun clipping my nails :p I will give it a try next Monday but tbh I doubt I will stick with it as it has nothing going for it so far.

My bad, have just added spoiler tags just in case anyone else is in the same boat, had just assumed if people had watched the first, they had also seen the second as they showed back to back :)

I enjoyed the first 2 episodes, yes its trashy and some of the cgi is a bit iffy but hey i have watched multi million dollar movies that are trashy and have worse cgi (skyline????)

I will keep watching it, its sci-fi, its got hotties, and i like some of the actors.

Aliens + Dinosaurs would be a bit much, they probably couldn't afford both :p

I actually enjoyed it as there is nothing better to watch on at the moment so it fills a hole....

They went back for a better life and climate etc don't they realise in 20 million years they're all going to be wiped out by a meteor strike?
