Terror Plot Foiled

sidthesexist got there before me (damn his ninja google skills) but from wiki:

The act (s. 21(5)) completely abolished the death penalty in the United Kingdom. Previously to this, the death penalty had already been abolished for murder, but it remained in force for certain military offences (although these provisions had not been used for several decades). The death penalty for treason was abolished by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.

Why are groups and people capable of this allowed into our country?

Most were born here and for those that weren't how exactly do you spot somone capable of this? The 7/7 bombers led normal lives my girlfriends mother knew one of them when he taught at a local school.

Perhaps im not explaining myself properly.

You are indeed correct that, pre-1998, someone could be sentenced to death for treason.

BUT.....that sentence would be overturned if the defendent appealed to the european courts, whose primacy over UK courts was established by treaties signed by Heath and Major in 1972 and 1992 respectively, and who are bound by the ECHR to declare capital punishment illegal.

Obviously such an appeal would certainly happen (unless the defendent was especially suicidal...), so the death penalty would *never* take place, evn if it was passed. So while technically the death penalty was allowed, it was, to all intents and purposes symbolic, as it could never be enforced.

Is that because you're a faggot?

Of course, I am only asking a question but as you can see, even questions can have a social effect... an inference...
I'll rephrase my original question, in that case.

Should they be denied due process because they have been accused of terrorism?

Their ethnicity being, of course, entirely incidental.

Don't worry it is a European thing.

They have the right to a trial to determine whether they are guilty of treason or terrorism though, I think you would agree. That's a British thing :)

Some in this thread seem to be advocating capital punishment for people merely accused of a crime. That's the sort of thing they do in Muslim countries is it not.

We have a Guy from Australia Called David Hicks being held in Guantanamo Bay because they caught him fighting against the Americans in the Taliban.

You wouldn't believe how many people want him to be released

I wouldn't be surprised if people kick up down here about the death penalty for treason

Why do people seem surprised that the arested where of pakistan origin.

SInce IRA disbanned there has been no white terrorist cells in the UK.

Also its all a load of goverment spin yeh right.

I agree *** goverment does lie and change facts.
However we know these terrorists exist, we know they hate us, we know there capable of plotting and carrying out an attack..

If it swims like a fish, eats like a fish, breaths like a fish, It's a fish..

Same here its terrorists. However tehy've been trailing them for months Its only gone public today not because of any imediate attacks. But because of the arrests.

But it's irrelevant because clearly they don't need to be.....7/7

However outside influences like that one armed chap who were allowed into our country to preech really should never have set foot in the UK.

If he's guilty of something then why don't the Yanks charge him and give him a trial. Isn't that how it's done in the West...

Treason is an anachronism, nowadays you get charged with murder, terrorism, espionage etc you don't get charged with treason.

As to them having rights when do you take them away, upon suspicion that they are committing an offence, upon arrest, upon conviction, or when some keyboard warrior pontificates.
