Terror Plot Foiled

Yet it's only the very public ones which go wrong, but all the successes are kept a secret - funny that ;)

You would be surprised the number of attacks our government have stopped that havnt been widely public, just a small leak to the press and thats that;)

This is a very public one, which so far, has gone right.

I've heard of lots of success stories on the news where a terrorist plot, or a possible terrorist thread has been intercepted and stopped.

Why did we not have 'threat levels', or ever more draconian laws or constant news splash's about the terrible danger we were in when the IRA were bombing britain on a monthly basis throughout the 1980s?

Is it? Where do you think their info comes from? Which media disaster operation gleans them all the info?

Maybe they didnt have them then? :p

Ive only seen them around since 9/11

So far I have been called stupid and a tool - I thought personal insults were not tolerated on this forum?

At least one person picked up on the flippancy of my remark.

But on a more serious note:

Hezbollah has killed approx 90 Israelis - mostly soldiers.
Israel has killed approx 900 Lebanese - mostly civilians.

Hezbollah rockets cannot be guided.
Israeli munitions are all smart/precision.

And out of this large number of success stories, how many people have actually been convicted?

A press release saying 'We've stopped another attack, hurrah for us!' does not, IMO constitute a level of evidence that means that we should bend over and take it from an ever more draconian administration.

You are an ideal citizen from the government's point of view :) Naive, gullible and you even admit you don't mind if they lie to you... sheeple indeed.

You are an IDEAL target from a terrorists point of view... Naive, gullible and you even admit that you tink the whole thing is a conspiracy and that there are no such thing as terrorists.

Would you mind going for a drive in the Northern area of Israel?? Would you like to hop on a plane to the US right about now?? Or maybe you'd like to move to Iran and tell everyone how "It's ok because you know the goverments are all conspiring against the muslim world" - gimme a phone when the string you up by your feet just before the decapitate you for being a Westerner.

Nice. Someone who doesn't agree with you is clearly fair game for personal insult. I'm not suprised people don't listen to you. Maybe if you didn't resort to insulting and name-calling people might see the facts in your statements.

The part that concerns me is police are anticipating a sub-plot, an attack that is set to take place after those, or instead of, if they were foiled, that the police are not sure about.

It all seems a bit odd to me.

The publicly visible side of the security operation seems to be based around the assumption that some sort of attack was planned for today although this hasn't been explicitly stated anywhere. If the security services have known about this for months I can't see that they'd have let it get to the day of the attack before acting and arresting everyone involved as the risk of something slipping through the net is just too great.

That combined with the seemingly preplanned nature of the response gives me the impression that the plot itelf wasn't planned for today and that all these over the top security measures are nothing more than a public show of force to reassure everyone that we are on top of things.

I choose to think they MIGHT be lying, or simply wrong. They might also be correct on this occasion. But based on their past lies and incompetence, I would say a degree of scepticism is necessary, wouldn't you?

So if they get it wrong they are liars and if they fail to stop something then they are incompetent.
I think they work very hard and do very dangerous work, can you lay claim to being as important and hardworking as they are?

I think what I said is self-evidently true - if you believe everything the government says without any scepticism then how is that not naive or gullible? :) It is the very definition of it. It was not an insult, merely an observation.

Possibly because one of the top men in the IRA was actually on our payroll :)

Like almost every single branch of the public sector - the worker bees do a damn hard job very well.

The failings are more often that not linked to the management and civil servants.

I didn't say that at all. If they LIE then they are liars :) Like with Iraq and its WMDs. If they shoot dead an innocent man on the Underground, or raid a house and find nothing there, they are incompetent.

I think they work very hard and do very dangerous work, can you lay claim to being as important and hardworking as they are?

(ignores personal, off topic comment :))

you, like me, will be called anti semitic soon....Israel supporters blindly support them even though they totally miss the point. Your post sums up Israels actions quiet well. Against all international law, yet still allowed to do it because they are on "our side"......

....while people will be asking why has Israel been mentioned in this post about UK terror plots, you have to find the route back to why Islamic extremists hate the US and UK.... And most will include Israel in there top 3 reasons to attack the US/UK.
